About
I am originally from West Bend, Wisconsin. I graduated from Ripon College with a Bachelor of Arts in both Psychology and Philosophy. Following college, I moved to Fox Valley working for Habitat for Humanity and the Oshkosh Corporation. While working for Habitat for Humanity, I met my wife, Megan (nee Thiel), who is originally from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. After spending our entire lives in the Midwest, when it came time for me to attend law school, Megan and I decided to try living in a vastly different area of the country and moved to Charleston, South Carolina. I spent my final semester of law school at the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, after we determined that we missed Wisconsin, our friends, and most importantly our families. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with Megan and our chocolate lab Howie, reading, travelling, going to concerts, spending time outdoors, and of course following Wisconsin sports teams.

I met with Joe to discuss a potential marital decision, and Joe was very Informative and supportive. He talked me through my options and reiterated that his goal is to sustain marriages to the best of his ability. The advice provided by Joe provided him with no compensation, but he was more than willing to devote time to meet with me.
I posted a question on Avvo and doubted that anyone would answer since I didn't pay. Joe answered my question within hours of my asking and gave great advice. I had wanted clarification of the statute and that's what I got--in plain English. Made a very difficult and stressful situation more tolerable.
I was very happy with the legal advise and support I recieved before, during and after my divorce. Joe was very professional, personable, provided good communication throughout the process, which helped me to feel more prepared and at ease. I also felt that Joe demonstrated a good balance between care and concern and maintaining appropriate client/ lawyer boundaries. His fees were very competive, yet affordable. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing legal advise and/or services.
Joe is so pleasant and comfortable to work with. His personality is genuine, so he never presents a false front. When you view his picture on line you are seeing the real Joe. He is totally prepared as a professional and presents the needed documents and advice on time, and explains the situation you are involved in from every angle to prepare you for any possible development. He is patient and kind in answering questions and in communicating by phone and email and text. I appreciated having this gentleman as my advocate during such a stressful situation in my life. He met with me in advance, so I could decide if I wanted to bring my business to his practice. It took a matter of only a few minutes to decide to do so; I was pleased with the office, as well. I liked the small office atmosphere with the friendly people.
In my opinion, Joe's performance was fair. He did not go the "extra mile" with our case. We had two hearings and Joe was fifteen minutes late to the first hearing, stating that he had printer problems. He requested that we should meet early to discuss the case before the hearing, but he arrived too late for any private time to discuss concerns prior to the hearing. The little amount of time we had left over, Joe spent having a small talk discussion with the GAL (who actually arrived early) about their personal leisure time. Luckily, the court commissioner was running behind that day and the hearing still took place as planned. Joe was not able to provide answers to questions that I had pertaining to protective services. He offered to try to obtain answers from a friend and to research them. When no specific answers were relayed back to me after I inquired, he said that his friend did not respond and may have been on vacation. Joe was not able to give any detailed answers from the research he said he would provide for me in regard to questions pertaining to the type of protective services that our county could actually provide. This lack of information caused me to change the court requests, which ended up costing more in the end. Joe also did not have a receptionist, nor did he have an out of office message or greeting to indicate that he was going to be out of the office for a vacation. He did respond back to me after a lapse, letting me know that he had been taking a vacation. Overall, Joe was polite and did return messages and phone calls to actually work through the guardianship process to the final court date. However, there were times during the process that could have gone smoother with the above written concerns, and a few others. Recently, I hired another law firm for estate planning. Their team of two lawyers, along with their paralegal was an extremely positive experience and I wish that working with Attorney Hentz could have been as positive.
