About
I have over 40 years of working with business clients in corporate restructuring and reorganization. My clients include secured and unsecured creditors in Chapter 11 proceedings, troubled companies needing restructuring both inside and outside of Chapter 11, as well as banks. I have acted as attorney for the Creditors' Committees and for the Debtor in numerous bankruptcies in a variety of industries. I have also acted as the State Court Receiver and Bankruptcy Trustee for over 35 years, and attorney for the Trustee in the liquidation of numerous businesses. Most recently, in a unanimous decision, the U.S. Supreme Court adopted Rameker's position in Clark v. Rameker that non-spousal inherited IRAs do not qualify as retirement funds in Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings. As the bankruptcy trustee in the case, my colleagues at Murphy Desmond and I first argued the case in 2011 before the federal bankruptcy court in Madison. We argued again as the case was appealed to the federal district court, and then to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 2012. I have also received the honor of being named "2014 Madison Lawyer of the Year in Bankruptcy & Creditor-Debtor Rights/ Insolvency & Reorganization Law" by Best Lawyers in America.I welcome the opportunity to work with you on your business legal matters.
