Landon is committed to getting it right.Mr. Van Winkle volunteered to serve in the United States Marine Corps in 2004. He served as an infantry mortarman with 1st Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served two combat tours in Iraq and finished his service as the chief instructor at the Division Training Center, where he supervised and taught classes in advanced mortar gunnery to Marines preparing to attend the Infantry Mortar Leaders Course. During his time at the Division Training Center, Mr. Van Winkle received a Navy Achievement Medal in recognition of his outstanding leadership and commitment to the instruction of mortar gunnery.After being honorably discharged in 2008, Mr. Van Winkle pursued his undergraduate degree while accompanying his wife, Stephanie, to California, Texas, and Hawai’i while she served as a cryptologic linguist in the Marines. He ultimately earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Finance, with distinction, from the University of Hawai’i at West O’ahu in 2014. While in Hawai’i he also worked as a scuba diving instructor and dive boat guide. He maintains his certification as a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, a passion he continues to pursue when time allows.Mr. Van Winkle attended law school at Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, and graduated summa cum laude as the first in his class. During law school, he served on the Stubbs Bankruptcy Clinic, which provides consumer bankruptcy services pro bono to disadvantaged clients and served as a judicial extern to the Honorable David M. Warren, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina. He also served on the board of editors of the Campbell Law Review as the Chief Articles Editor, where his comment on the jurisdictional challenges that the Federal Arbitration Act presents to bankruptcy court jurisdiction was published in the California Bankruptcy Journal. Upon graduation, Landon’s commitment to the study of bankruptcy law was recognized when he was honored with the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Medal of Excellence.Following graduation, Mr. Van Winkle served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Joseph N. Callaway, II, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina.Mr. Van Winkle resides in Cary, North Carolina with his wife, Stephanie, and their three children.
