She cared enough about my son to get him a not guilty when other more expensive lawyers thought there was nothing that anyone could do. She got him out of a tight spot and we got him into rehab. Very happy !

This was not my first case in which I needed an attorney. Having hired a very capable attorney from the private sector before, I have to admit I was worried about having a public defender. I mean we've all seen the shows were an awkward looking pencil pusher comes in with a dozen case files and asks "which person are you?". Nope not Vanessa Moss, she kept me up to date about my trial, gave excellent legal advice, and was a whiz cross-examining the witness. Her incredible knowledge of both the legal and medical aspects of my case were essential to the outcome. All she asked me to do was tell the truth. Tucson's citizens should be thankful that we have an attorney of this caliber not just defending us, but #winning

Ms. Moss ignored my first 6 emails, and finally responded with the suggestion that I "be patient." She was inadequately prepared for the trial, and in our one hour of preparation before the trial she instructed me to demonstrate my behavior in a way that was not as I had described it in the police report. The prosecutor rightfully called me out on this, and I was left with egg on my face and a justifiable angry judge. Ms. Moss did not have the presence of mind to ask the victim why, if she was afraid of me coming back that night (an extraordinarily improbable situation, especially if you knew the situation), did she choose not to press charges until the next day. Ms. Moss also commented that the victim was lying about her weight - a very peculiar and irrelevant observation. When I lost the case, she assured me she would appeal because I hadn't done anything wrong. I tried to reach her repeatedly with no result. Finally her new secretary wrote back that the appeal had been filed. I've heard nothing about it since. She added $250 to her fee for her investigators. That seemed reasonable until I realized there were no investigators. It would be slander to suggest that she has emotional fluctuations, making her a competent lawyer at times, and a dismissive one at others. So I won't say that. But her behavior was very strange. When I pointed out to her that she had written a total of 17 words to me in two months, she denied it. When I showed her our exchanges, and my frustration with repeatedly not having heard back from her, she wrote a long email that wasn't particularly enlightening, but verbose enough to improve her words-per-month average. I felt poorly represented, and found Ms. Moss disingenuous on several occasions. It was rare, if ever, that she was on time. Based on what I have read, and a comment by a defendant whose case she got dismissed, she seems like a roll of the dice. She may represent you well, but don't count on it.

I would not wish this incredibly poor attorney on my worst enemy. I had the misfortune to have Vanessa Moss appointed as my attorney in a criminal matter in the Pima County Superior Court. Vanessa on more than one occasion exhibited exactly how poor her skills as an attorney are when she I sat in the Pima County Jail for more than 30 days before she even acknowledged that I was a client. It was not until I wrote to the Chief Presiding Judge of Pima County did Ms Moss show up to meet me despite having been contacted by both my mother and my aunt. By the time she finally got around to seeing me, many of my rights in my case were gone because too much time had passed. I did file an Arizona Bar Complaint against Ms. Moss and she was admonished for her actions, or should i say lack thereof. At our initial meeting Ms Moss brought me a Plea Agreement from the prosecutor which offered me to spend 1.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections, aka PRISON, and Ms Moss was adamant that I should accept this plea, despite my assertion that I was innocent. Ms Moss told me that if i didn't take the plea i could go away for a lot longer and it didn't really matter if i was innocent or not, i should just take the plea and do the time. Fortunately for me, I stood by my convictions and chose to adamantly maintain my innocence and insist that I was willing to go to trial to prove my innocence. I fired Vanessa Moss at the end of October 2010. I was then appointed another attorney by the court, who believed in my innocence, filed a motion for an evidentiary heating. After the hearing the judge ruled that the Pima County Sheriff's Department had violated my Civil Rights, the case dismissed and I was set free from jail an innocent man. Had I listened, or taken Vanessa Moss's advice, I would still be sitting in the Arizona Department of Corrections. I would encourage any one who comes into contact with Vanessa not to be swooned by her kind words or good looks into thinking that she is a competent attorney. You have a right to be represented by competent counsel, and that IS NOT Vanessa Moss. At the end of the day, she gets paid and goes back to her cushy office while you potential may go to a jail or prison cell. Beware be very afraid of this woman!
