About

Trey has over twenty years of trial experience but his most important work for clients is outside the courtroom, advocating for clients caught in government investigations as targets, witnesses, or victims.Recent engagements include representing a professional services provider in the Mueller Special Counsel probe and conducting a significant internal investigation for a large regional employer faced with an investigation by the FBI, Homeland Security, and US Attorney. Trey has defended dozens of businesses and professionals investigated or prosecuted for government contracting, financial services, tax, or Medicaid fraud; and numerous ship owners, officers, and crew in federal environmental investigations.Trey also represents individual defendants in state and federal courts in the full range of criminal cases from drug cases to homicide, including a government contractor charged with two counts of murder in Afghanistan. He also represents petitioners in state habeas corpus and federal 2255 proceedings to obtain collateral relief. He has secured habeas relief for clients facing immigration consequences and obtained a commutation from the Governor.Trey served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for six years before turning to defense work, prosecuting the full range of criminal offenses, including over 100 sexual assaults. Before law school, Trey worked for the U.S. Senate Majority Leader on Capitol Hill for four years, becoming well acquainted with the workings of government.
