At Stubbs Perdue, we are proud to be led by founder, senior partner, and experienced New Bern bankruptcy lawyer, Trawick H. “Buzzy” Stubbs, Jr. Admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1967, Buzzy has been certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a Certified Bankruptcy Specialist in both Business and Consumer Bankruptcy for more than 25 years. His solid legal insight regarding bankruptcy matters has proven to be invaluable to many of our clients. His efforts to provide high-caliber legal representation that goes above and beyond have not gone unnoticed. AV Preeminent® Rated by Martindale-Hubbell®, Buzzy has also been recognized in Business North Carolina Magazine’s Legal Elite in the area of bankruptcy from 2002 to 2014, and one of the Top 100 Lawyers in North Carolina by Super Lawyers® Magazine (2008-2014). Other milestones in his legal career include working as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge John D. Larkins, Jr. (1969-1970) and a Chapter 13 Trustee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of North Carolina from July 1972 to 2011. He has served on the North Carolina State Bar Board of Specialization - Bankruptcy Specialization Committee (Member 1984-1990) and the North Carolina Bar Association - Bankruptcy Section Council (1986-1989). Buzzy is also the organizer, founder, and a frequent speaker at the Eastern Bankruptcy Institute. In 2012, Buzzy was selected by the Bankruptcy Section of The North Carolina Bar Association as the first-ever recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was recognition of Buzzy's 40 years of contributions “to the betterment of the NCBA Bankruptcy Section and the profession” and honored him as one “who has set an aspiring example for those who follow.” According to the Bankruptcy Council, the award “need not be given annually… as it is intended to be a distinct honor recognizing a lifetime of achievements in furtherance of the Bankruptcy practice and profession.” Among other qualifications, each nominee must adhere to the “highest ethical standards” and be “held in highest esteem by both the bankruptcy bench and NCBA.” Besides possessing extensive knowledge of bankruptcy law, the recipient must have been a licensed practicing attorney of at least 25 years and demonstrate best quality of work and commitment to clients and the community.
