About
Sarah’s areas of practice are Juvenile Defense, Child Protection, Criminal Defense, Family Law, Special Education Law, Residential Real Estate, Probate, and Estate Planning. As a former special education teacher, Sarah values the rights of children and families above all else. While in law school at the University of Maine School of Law, Sarah dedicated herself to advocacy for children and families as a Student Attorney and Juvenile Justice Fellow at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic, one of the oldest law school legal aid clinics in the country. As a Student Attorney, Sarah defended children and young adults accused of criminal offenses and acted as a guardian ad litem in child protection cases. She routinely represented clients seeking Orders for Protection from Abuse, provided legal advice regarding family matters to men and women incarcerated at the Maine Correctional Center, represented parents of students with special needs in school matters, and worked with homeless youth in Portland by providing legal advice and assistance for both civil and criminal matters. In her final semester in law school, Sarah authored a comprehensive handbook on juvenile appellate practice in Maine (Juvenile Appeals Handbook). The Juvenile Appeals Handbook focuses on understanding the relationship between statutory law, case law, the Maine Rules of Appellate, Unified Criminal, and Civil Procedure, the Maine Rules of Professional Responsibility, and other relevant policies involved in juvenile appellate practice. Further, the Juvenile Appeals Handbook provides guidance on how to interpret and utilize each component in concert in order to streamline and provide accessibility to the juvenile appellate process. Due to her work on the Juvenile Appeals Handbook, the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic and the University of Maine School of Law received a grant for Maine Law faculty to conduct trainings for juvenile defense attorneys throughout the State of Maine.Sarah grew up in Weston, Connecticut and earned an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Connecticut College as well as a Masters in Special Education from Boston University. She went on to graduate cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law in Portland, Maine in May 2016, and was the recipient of the Faculty Award for Scholastic Excellence in Juvenile, Family, and Elder Law. Sarah lives in South Windsor with her husband, Great Dane, and one cantankerous cat.

I recently used Attorney Lemay for a private matter that needed attention. She immediately got to work and produced results very quickly. She has a great sense of urgency and execution for her clients. I highly recommend using Attorney Lemay.
