Moving from Seattle to Reno, NV I enlisted the assistance of Thomas Collins for the transfer of Guardianship for my disabled sister from Washington State to Nevada. Mr. Collins came highly recommended from the Seattle attorneys and accountants with whom I'd been working for some years. Sounds fairly straightforward, doesn’t it? It happened, however, that Nevada had just passed stringent legislation on guardianship due to a case of abuse in Las Vegas. The laws were so new that there was no "track record" for how all these new laws were implemented, or their affects on guardians. Mr. Collins spent much time becoming familiar with the new legislation, consulting colleagues in the process. Mr. Collins fielded my many questions and communicated often and effectively with our Seattle team. In my case, it was possible that my sister's estate and trust fund procedures would need to be completely revamped and taken under jurisdiction of Nevada courts. This decision would essentially negate my past years of research and building a support team of the professionals needed; an unsettling and daunting prospect. Because of Mr. Collins' work and preparation, our hearing couldn't have gone better. I appreciated that Mr. Collins gave me best- and worst- case scenarios of possible outcomes, prepared thoroughly, and followed-up with our Seattle team. In our case, the judicial decision resulted beyond our hopeful projections. For this, I have Mr. Collins to thank. I look forward to his assistance with future projects.
