Terri Sharp is a New Bern native and has served as the Elected Clerk of Superior Court for Craven County since 2012. Prior to that, she practiced law with McCotter, Ashton & Smith, P.A. for 12 years in estate planning and administration, guardianship and competency matters, real estate and corporate law. She also served as the Public Administrator and Public Guardian for Craven County for 7 years. As the Clerk of Superior Court, her responsibilities include Ex Officio Judge of Probate, Comptroller of Court Funds, Administrator, and Record Keeper. The Clerk of Court has a staff of 32 assistant and deputy clerks of court who all work hard to staff the courtrooms and serve the public and residents of Craven County in each division at the Craven County Courthouse. We have a great team with a wonderful work ethic and the knowledge required to serve all of your needs.Of note is the fact that North Carolina is the only state in the country where the Clerk of Superior Court serves as a judge due to North Carolina Constitutional provisions and statutory law.As Judge of Probate, the Clerk of Superior Court presides over many types of hearings, including, decedent's estates, guardianships, competency, foreclosures, adoptions, name changes, land partition, condemnation, and claims for surplus funds, just to name a few.
