About
I am a solo practitioner providing affordable legal services in the areas of estate planning, probate, conservatorships and elder law. An attorney since 1992, I graduated from the Washington College of Law at American University with highest honors. I practiced law with Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. before moving to San Diego in 1999 and practicing with the law firms of Shustak, Jalil & Heller, Shustak & Partners, and La Bella & McNamara. As a litigator, I handled many cases involving insurance coverage, financial and real estate fraud, elder financial abuse, trusts and fiduciary duties. I have also served as a senior appellate attorney for the Fourth District Court of Appeal of California.

Terry did a trust for my uncle, then handled the estate after he passed away. She was absolutely wonderful, so kind, professional, and efficient. I had no idea what to do with any of this, and with her help and advice, was able to work my way through distributions, taxes, everything. She managed to get me access to the bank account several days before my uncle's death, and i was able to use some funds to hire help for him at home. Her fees are better than reasonable, and her kindness and accessibility made all the difference in the world. My uncle and I were very lucky to have been referred to her.
Teresa Gillis worked on a Conservatorship for my mother who has advanced Alzheimers. Without her wonderful help I would not have been able to keep my mother in a good environment for her final days. Not only was she indispensable for her legal work but also a compassionate and understanding person.
Terry has been an advocate during the most difficult time of my life. She has been a true professional and a dedicated guide as we worked through the loss of my Dad and then the conservatorship for my disabled Mom. Terry took a completely unschooled person, myself, and guided me successfully through the process of obtaining the Court approved conservatorship for my Mom's care and estate. She was patient and understanding as we worked through my family, the Courts, the Probate investigators and Appraisers.
She is responsive, informative and very detailed. Best attorney I have ever hired. She handled several different things for us: will, trust, and a personal lawsuit and went above and beyond what was expected.
