I had two charges and I was lucky enough to end up with Tegan as my public defender on my felony charge. She got me a better deal on my felony than the one I received for a misdemeanor attached to the same charge (my felony was robbery, misdemeanor was petit larceny. ) I got the case with Tegan dropped down to disorderly conduct with a class and community service while I received 45 days for the petit larceny and I served ten or 15 longer on that charge because I was never able to get ahold of the public defender on that case even when the judge had instructed they visit me after my felony case. My only complaint is never getting information on any restrictions on where my community service could be done or where my class was to be completed and was led to believe that I could make payments which turned out to be that all $280 was needed up front in full. Not her fault considering she didn't start a court class business, she works at a law firm. I could also never get ahold of her because the free time in city jail was always when Tegan was in court or the P.D.'s office was closed and they didn't answer half the time anyway and despite the way the corrections officers insisted, I nam inclined to believe that Tegan couldn't call to return my messages since I don't see how she could or why she would lie, and to boot the C.O.'s often lied or just made up answers. To add, Tegan's office called to remind me of a status check court date a day earlier than the date given on my release papers. So that really saved me being in some deep crap whether or not it was someone else's incompetence I would have still gotten stuck with a warrant. TO SUM IT ALL UP! In some trouble? Either hope she gets appointed to you as a P.D. but if you value your freedom, hire her. She's a great, helpful attorney. She worked that hard for me for free, I'm sure a retainer wouldn't do anything except guarantee you have the best in your corner. Hire Tegan. You will thank yourself when you don't have to serve time and/or register as a felon.
