About

With a strong background in forensic accounting and finance, Steve Wittenberg brings to his clients a unique insight into the financial aspects of divorce, including business valuation and the tracing of hidden funds. Taking a pragmatic approach to family law, Steve works with clients to achieve the best possible resolution in the most efficient manner. His careful, measured approach to addressing conflict and advocating for his clients’ interests often brings about negotiated settlements that avoid costly and time-consuming litigation while still achieving desired results. When it is necessary to go to court, Steve is an adept and savvy counsel, with long experience in Chicago, as well as in greater Cook, Will, DuPage, and Kankakee County courts. Steve’s deep understanding of family law enables him to present substantive, compelling arguments that advance his clients’ interests without creating additional conflict or drama. His aim in litigation is to yield positive, lasting results that enable both parties to move forward without further dispute. Steve began his legal career as a Hollywood talent agent, but found himself missing the more down-to-earth quality of life in the Midwest. He returned to Chicago and joined the family law practice of his father, Michael Wittenberg, where he quickly discovered a passion for both the business and personal aspects of helping clients protect their financial interests while moving forward in their private lives.

After having worked with Steven Wittenberg on no fewer than four court matters, I consider myself qualified to discuss my experiences and successes (or otherwise). Steve Wittenberg is a gifted and highly skilled attorney. His skills and expertise are extremely sharp and he works to keep legal expenses as reasonable as possible with the best interests of the client in mind. In court, Steve's command of case law and his ability to make persuasive and timely arguments is second to none. I would highly recommend Steven Wittenberg if you are seeking a top caliber attorney in Illinois.

Steve took my case and he worked with me to insure that my kids and finances were well taken care of.

if you want some one to deceive and tell you what you want to hear, regardless of the truth, then by ALL means hire this misguided attorney. His ethics and lack of ANY commitment to his client is not what his focus is on, lacking the attention span and required efforts for a serious effort to confront the sensitive family issues, I would call him sheepish in the execution of any deliberate concerns of his client...but he would tell you otherwise

It became clear Steve was about prolonging the divorce and cashing checks when for one month of no communications, he charged $3000. Trial approached for 6 months and he did not file any discovery requests or explore witness options. He did not respond to alarms that husband was not cooperating for a timely trial and needed to be compelled or else timing would be delayed. Didn't listen, didn't care. He oriented on squabbles and harassing motions by husband but could not be bothered with coming to closure. Almost all bills were double what I thought work he put in. I often got huge bills and asked for explanations at which point Steve will tell you anything to make it feel like they are about to execute a winning plan. Then nothing. Then you call to follow-up on his promises and he does not return the call. For days, weeks. Shows up unprepared for court and either makes a backroom agreement or continues it to another week when he will again show up unprepared and take whatever the opposing counsel wants him too. Then he will promise a correction later. When you ask him to act on his promises that he blew up your ass to get off the hook last time (expedited trial dates, vacating erroneous agreed orders, etc) he acts like he never made them. But the unexcuseable lack of response is the worst. When he meets with opposing counsel for four hours then refuses to talk to you for 5 days on the outcome, he should have been fired. He will call within 2 minutes when you have a credit card to pay his bill. He has too many accounts, is too spazzy to focus on any to completion and just rushed through everything at my detriment.

Extremely timeconsuming, disappointingly unprofessional and costly experience.
