 Steve Sowell is a solo practitioner from Mount Clemens, Michigan.  His practice is limited to real estate and creditors’ rights, in and out of bankruptcy.  He has represented condominium and homeowner associations for over 29 years.  He has lectured for the Community Associations Institute numerous times on both the local and national level.  He has published over a dozen articles regarding condominium, bankruptcy, service of process, and other issues. Steve served on the Chapter 7 rules subcommittee of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan which proposed changes to local rules in light of the 2005 amendments to the United States Bankruptcy Code.  He spoke at the American Bar Institute’s 2006 Central States Bankruptcy Workshop on changes to the automatic stay in bankruptcy.  He chaired the Detroit Consumer Bankruptcy Association’s subcommittee regarding changes to the automatic stay in 2005. In 1999 he served on the State Bar committee that drafted revisions to the Michigan Condominium Act.  He testified before the National Bankruptcy Review Commission in 1997 regarding the “Fairness to Condominiums and Cooperatives” provision of the Bankruptcy Reform Act. Steve is a member of the American Bar Association, the Michigan Bar Association, the Macomb County Bar Association, and the Detroit Consumer Bankruptcy Association. In his free time (and with five children there isn’t much of that) Steve rides a bike and dabbles in photography.
