A life long resident of Louisiana, Mr. Carleton has been a practicing Louisiana trial lawyer since October of 1984 throughout Louisiana, primarily representing small and large businesses, the State of Louisiana and the City of Baton Rouge, as well as numerous individuals in select cases from personal injury to breach on contract. A native of Lake Charles, Mr. Carleton practiced in New Orleans from 1984-1992 and has been practicing from law offices in Baton Rouge since 1994 to present. Mr. Carleton has signifcant experience in oil and gas matters, construction claims, employment discipline and termination cases, defective product claims, insurance related claims, business debt collection matters, landlord and tenant disputes regarding commercial properties and a variety of claims asserted against governmental entities. Mr. Carleton has tried both Judge and Jury trial cases in the Eastern, Middle and Western Louisiana Federal District Courts as well as in over thirty different parishes (counties) in State District and City or Parish Courts throughout the State. He has appeared and argued various administrative cases before the Louisiana Public Service Commission and The Louisiana Pilotage Fee Commission. He has argued cases at the Appellate level at the First, Third, Fourth and Fifth Court of Appeals for the State of Louisiana and before the United States Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans on numerous occasions.
