About
Stephanie Townsend Allala is a veteran journalist and El Paso Elder law attorney. After two decades in radio, television, and newspaper, she took her advocacy in a different direction- helping the disenfranchised. Ms. Townsend Allala graduated from the University of Texas School of Law at Austin, where she was the Ray and Kay Bailey Hutchison Scholarship recipient. She was also Outstanding Graduate in Broadcasting at University of Texas at El Paso. She devotes her life to public service, and has served as the President and or Director of all of the following organizations: The El Paso Women’s Bar Association, El Paso Women’s Bar Auxiliary, El Paso Bar Association, El Paso Press Club, El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, El Paso Association of Hispanic Journalists, and CASA of El Paso. She also spent four years as a Director on the Board of Nazareth Care Facility, a non-profit charitable skilled nursing facility. It was her work on the Board of Directors for Nazareth that helped her to understand the difficulties in placement of certain individuals with special capacity issues. For example, many times persons with advanced dementia, schizophrenia and chronic psychosis find themselves suddenly homeless, because there are few facilities capable of caring for people with advanced dementia and mental illness. Ms. Townsend Allala helps these families find permanent homes for their loved ones.Ms. Townsend Allala is a proud mother of two daughters, Jessica Kludt, who is an attorney and Vice President of Townsend Allala & Associates, and Amelia Jordan, who works and studies in Los Angeles.Stephanie’s work as advocate for a transparent, honest and open government led her to file the most famous Open Records Request now pending in Texas. It resulted in litigation which is now pending before the Texas Supreme Court, City of El Paso v. Allala. She was named El Paso/El Chuco Person of the Year for 2014 for her fight to bring honesty to El Paso government.

Even during “normal times” the death of a parent is difficult enough. Our mother passed away during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which made dealing with her death and financial issues even worse. Since our family had previously sought the counsel of Stephanie Townsend-Allala when my father passed away and we were very satisfied with her legal services we sought her expertise again. When we talked to her about our concerns she took her time to answer all our questions and concerns. She made us feel at ease by her caring and compassionate manner. We are tremendously grateful for her expertise and knowledge in Elder Law. Our family highly recommends her legal services.
My family consulted Ms. Allala concerning our Mom's estate after her passing. The State of Texas sent us a Texas Estate Recovery Program questionnaire to determine if the State of Texas had any claim against our Mom's property. Ms. Allala was extremely patient in helping us answer the questions correctly. She answered all our questions with precise knowledge of statutory claim exemptions. Ms. Allala demonstrated professionalism beyond the call of duty. Her staff was also very friendly and kind during the set up of our consultation. Ms. Allala also gave us the peace of mind that we craved during our stressful time of taking care of our Mom's estate. We highly recommend Ms. Allala and her law firm in dealing with elderly care.
Stephanie Townsend gave us tremendous hope in our situation and guided us through our journey like a pro. She was always available to us to tell us what we needed to be doing. No question was too dumb. Stephanie answered them all and encouraged us. She is professional, knowledgeable, and offered emotional support to us as we faced difficult decisions in our situation. My family is grateful to her. We cannot praise her enough for all that she has done. Without hesitation, we recommend her highly and without any reservations.
Ms. Townsend-Allala assisted me in preparing my will in a most professional and careful manner. She went out of her way to explain each and every aspect of my will and how it would affect my surviving children. I find Ms. Allala to be a most compassionate and savvy person. She is down to earth and sincerely believes in assisting her clients. She is well known in the community for defending the rights of common and disadvantaged citizens against government interference with those rights. She is tenacious in her desire to help the less fortunate. Her motto should be, "To serve and Protect." I would recommend Ms. Allala without reservation, knowing full well she is the best legal counsel one can have.
Both of our parents were needing assistance: both were diagnosed with dementia and could not handle their legal complications. Both were mandated by law to enter a long-term care facility. Our family was suddenly faced with no knowledge of the town where the parents reside, nor did we know where to turn for all the complicated legal issues in front of us. Ms. Townsend-Allala has truly led us through the maze with care, concern for our parents, and instruction for us. She answers our questions immediately and is always working with us. We could not have come to a satisfactory conclusion without her. We are still in transition, but thanks to Ms. Townsend-Allala, our parents are in a safe place and we have a great legal voice on our side. We recommend her without reservation.
The professionalism of Stephanie and her entire staff was apparent from the moment we began to work together. Since my family and estate situation are complicated, preparing my will required that we spend a good deal of time discussing family relationships, and the structure of my international estate. I was not surprised when she demonstrated good knowledge of the laws and workings in Mexico, which for my case is important. She was gracious, succinct and prompt - a thorough delight to be with. I cannot recommend her enough.
