Having not been married before and knowing nothing about family laws of Washington State (where I live), I wasn't sure how to approach marriage (in terms of legal implication) and dealing with premarital contract. After talking with 2 other attorneys, I contacted Serin Ngai for an one hour consultation and she explained all my questions and confusion using simple language. I found her knowledgeable (which I expected a good attorney should be), and more importantly, I felt very comfortable discussing personal and potentially emotional issues with her even at the first meeting. She used simple language to explain lots of terms that would have been intimidating for me. I decided to use her service to draft the premarital contract. She was quite efficient. Even when she attended a family law conference (in Caribbean I believe) during this time she continued to keep me updated via email. It took less time than I had anticipated to have a draft. She walked through the draft with me and again, I found the whole process very stress-free. Planning wedding and all is already stressful, so I am very happy that with her assistance this legal process turned out very smooth. To me, another pro of working with Serin Ngai is that she has her own firm. When I talked to family law attorneys from big law firms in shiny downtown buildings it was always more intimidating. Going to her office in Eastlake was so different and easy. And she is definitely no less competent than those big firm attorneys. Her reasonable fee was the icing on the cake.

Although Serin is experienced in family law, I often felt that I paid much more than the services I received. She was not as responsive as I had hoped an attorney of her caliber would be. But I do wish her well in her new private practice.
