About

I joined our firm in 2006 as a clerk during law school, and became an associate attorney in 2007.  I was made a partner in the firm in 2010.  I've successfully represented clients in a variety of different types of injury cases, including auto collisions, premises liability (falls, etc.), animal attacks, watercraft accidents, and construction site injuries.  Along with my Partner Craig Schauermann, I argued and won before the Washington State Supreme Court (Weismann v. Safeco, 2012) an important case expanding protections for auto insurance consumers in Washington.I've volunteered time for the past several years at the Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Housing Justice Project, advising residential tenants about their rights and obligations.  I've previously served on the new member and membership committees for the Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ), and have acted as chair and co-chair of the WSAJ Clark County Roundtable.  I'm a member of the Washington State Bar Association and the Clark County Bar Association, and an Eagle member of the Washington State Association for Justice.  I'm admitted to practice in all Washington and Oregon state courts, as well as in federal court in Oregon, and Washington's Western District. I was born and raised in Vancouver, attending Vancouver public schools and graduating from Hudson’s Bay High School.  I enjoy playing recreational basketball and softball, skiing, and spending time with my wife and three children.

I was living in Eastern Montana in February 2015, when the news came that my 20 year old daughter was hit and killed by a driver in Walla Walla. My cousin's girlfriend lost her son in a similar situation the year before. Scott's firm was involved and they recovered $125,000 for her. She was lead to believe by the insurance company that there was a paltry amount due and that was all she could expect. Thankfully, for her, she came to know Scott's partners. When I was faced with litigating a Wrongful Death case over my daughter, I was introduced to Scott by phone along with many other Attorneys. Scott knew this wasn't a case for him and he told me so. But he wrote e-mails, talked to me by phone and really stuck by me during a rough period that clouded my view. He did so, until I was able to charter the waters by myself. He never asked to be paid and yet, he gave me real answers that were useful and easily understood after he explained the process. None of the other attorneys would return my calls after the first consult. I needed more help a year later when issues over the probate of my daughter's estate were muddied by my ex-wife. Scott found me a great Attorney who settled my matter with the ex forever more. Scott was giving, kind and helped me move on from that dark place.

I was in an Car Accident in 2012. I didn't think I would need to have lawyer represent me during my ordeal - I thought I could handle things on my own, boy was I WRONG! After giving it a go on my own, I didn't feel like I was on the right path, I never felt like I knew what all my options were - what I could or couldn't do and I was extremely frustrated and in a lot of pain. I felt like I was not being heard and realized that I definitely needed to have someone knowledgeable and experienced help navigate and guide me through this process. Thank God for Scott Staples - he was the ONLY one out of a handful of lawyers I'd called, that made me feel like my concerns were finally being heard, he gave me hope and made me feel at ease and made sure all of my concerns were addressed! I am so grateful to Scott not only for agreeing to take on my case, but for the fact that he made such an unpleasant process much more manageable. He was accommodating and I always felt like I could ask him anything and that everything that needed to be taken care of was being taken care of, my questions were always answered in depth, in a timely manner and I felt like I was kept in the loop. Scott was very knowledgeable on issues that needed to be addressed and was always on top of things , paper work was always in order and he kept the process moving forward as smoothly as possibly. In settlement negotiation stages he explained all my options clearly, never once suggesting a course of action that wasn't morally sound. He explored every opportunity to get a fair settlement, even going as far as negotiating with my insurance company to get a reduced amount in their portion of the final settlement. He understood where I was coming from with my decisions and always made sure to give me all my options and when I made my final decision on things he was very respectful of that. Scott was well aware of my goals to get healed and back to my normal capacity and to move on from this accident in a positive manner and he helped me get there. For that I am grateful and would highly recommend Scott to anyone looking for a Genuine, Reliable, Honest, Morally & Ethically Sound ... and well just an all round Amazing Lawyer!

After being involved in a motor vehicle accident, with 10 years of law enforcement experience, I found myself needing assistance in handling the insurance due to the severity of injury and potential to impact my employment ability. I found Scott Staples and we discussed the events involved, in addition to the injuries and surgeries that would be upcoming. Having never had the need for an injury attorney and having my own developed perceptions from my employment, I was hesitant. Scott was remarkable. He understood the concerns I had, the inner working of the insurance companies, and was able to put me at ease that he would take the lead. I found myself receiving many copies of letters being sent to others for records, insurance companies, the like. It was comforting to feel like I was always being kept in the loop and he had an interest in the outcome. I found that Scott was always easy to contact, always retuned my calls promptly, and and was always able to articulate how the law would play into options. He never once made a suggestion of backing off principles and always held the morally higher ground. Though the case lasted just over a year due to the many surgeries, I always knew the case was being taken care of. In the final negotiations, he made sure to brief me on available options and indictaed he would venture down any avenue I decided on. The final settlement was reasonable and fair, and then he took the opportunity to negotiate with the multiple medical contacts to reduce even their costs. The final paperwork was quick, accurate, and thorough. He has my highest regards as a person, and certainly changed my skepticism of an injury attorney. Top Rate!
