I hired Mr. Schwartz to help me with a divorce. He charged me a very large retainer which I believed would cover most if not all of the matter. I told him I was low on funds and he said he understood. The first session he came off as kind and compassionate. However, he began to nickel and dime me as soon as he cashed my check. He would make phone calls to me that he would call "updates" even though nothing was going on with the case. Then he would bill me for the phone call, no matter how short it was and then on top of that charge send me a $112 dollar letter which said everything that we discussed in the phone call. He would do this with everyone he talked to on my case. I think these follow up letters ate up half the retainer. Six months into his representation, the whole retainer was gone and I was not even close to getting a divorce. I had to hire another attorney who said he could have done the entire matter with the original retainer and I probably would have gotten a refund. I did not feel like a client with Mr. Schwartz. I felt he took advantage of my vulnerability, tried to make my spouse out to be an adversary when he wasn't, and tried to get as much money out of me as he could.
