Sally has consulted with me over the years on several issues I had with child custody and divorce. She did an amazing job. What I liked best was her quick insightful grasp of the facts of the situation and her ability to convey useful practical solutions to problems. She helped me understand the options and the factors that would produce differing results under different fact scenarios. My case involved rental property, non-marital property, a prenuptial agreement, and income that was difficult to accurately ascertain. Sally helped me sift through the issues that were legally significant and separate the ones that were more personal in nature. I ended up finally with a realistic evaluation of the proposals for settlement and whether to accept them or go to trial. I worried about the financial consequences to my two sons and Sally assisted me in assessing what the value was under certain proposals. What is truly amazing is that she works in one of the most contentious fields in law and yet maintains calm, her perspective, does not get swept away by emotions and yet passionately is devoted to improving the lives of her clients and the legal system. From my observations, Sally is held in high regard by the judges, opposing counsel and the court personnel. She understands the complex layers of divorce issues and navigates the technical challenges with ease. I was impressed with her ability to provide options and alternatives to solve what could be hotly contested issues. I was not sure how to treat depreciation and trust assets. Sally showed me how the matters would be handled by the court under the law. She was so much more efficient than the other lawyers I had consulted. They would take a long time to act and a longer time to answer questions in a straightforward way. I often did not understand what other lawyers were suggesting. Sometimes I believe that other lawyers proposed work that was not necessary or helpful that they could bill me for just to increase their fees. With Sally, if there was an issue she did not know she would tell me plainly. Other lawyers would avoid answering the question. With Sally I had the option to obtain the answer by using other resources or asking her to find out, or at least recognize the problem areas. I find that being in a divorce is the worst time of someones' life. It was for me. To have a lawyer who was realistic, yet someone who advocated for me, was a relief as many issues seem to be an hostile battle. I felt confident that the legal advice I obtained from Sally was the best I could obtain at any price. For me, her counsel was the only thing I could rely on in a time of turmoil. (As a side note, I used my therapist to vent personal issues, not Sally. It is easier for her to do her legal job without having to wear the hat of therapist, too. There are so many highly charged issues that I was glad to be able to separate the legal problems from the ones that just broke my heart.) I also like the location of Sally's office, right off 294. I found her staff helpful and kind, professional and compassionate. I was lucky to find Sally when things were grim.
Agree with most review she is a total example of how broken the court system is.
Ms. Lichter is not an advocate for the best interest of your child but for the best interest of the mother. Her reports are not well investigated, sloppily written (referring to me as another clients name), and reveal her negative bias towards men. In any other profession she would be terminated for incompetence but the lake county lawyers have a nice cottage industry to line there pockets.
Sally should be a case study on how broken the Illinois court system is and how inept attorneys can continue to have their license to practice even though there’s objective evidence demonstrating their complete incompetence. Sally was assigned to my case by the courts to represent my child which I was awarded full custody by the courts. After 10 months, charging me more than $8,000 and meeting with my daughter once in person for 20 minutes and once over the phone for 10 minutes, concluded the same as the courts. Why 10 months and over $8,000, she had to request continuations SIX times and met with the opposing counsel for hours who happened to share an office with her. Aside from the obvious conflict of interest, Sally’s only clients must be mandated by the courts because NO ONE with any common sense would ever solicit her services given her complete ineptness. She must string out her case load to make a living. Check your invoices closely as her office double charges and adds charges for services never rendered. Caught the issues and had them corrected.
Sally Lichter was forced upon me while going through custody of my child. Sally Lichter initially made a recommendation for the mother to get full custody without even coming over to either of our houses nor seeing either parent with their children. Sally Lichter is not responsive whatsoever and only really seems interested in speaking to a person when they owe her money. She never came over to my house nor did she ever see me interact with my child. When it came to speaking with witnesses, she literally waited until the last minute. She makes hasty character generalizations about people with little to no evidence to back up such claims. After consulting with approximately ten lawyers, I ended up going with a well respected lawyer, and thankfully I was able to get a sizable amount of visitation with my daughter as well as joint custody. Through my consultations, I was told my several lawyers that she is not easy to work with, and while she is highly respected by some, she is not by most. Sally clearly seems to be in favor of a woman having pretty much the upper hand throughout all custody and divorce matters.
Ms. Lichter was responsive when I met with her directly. She seemed to understand the law very well including the appearance that she favored female litigants. She rarely followed up completely with her own suggestions. She also rarely returned calls and emails. All of this delayed completion of my divorce using up my retainer.
Sally was assigned by the Court to my divorce case to coordinate the child custody issue. The Court had given me extra time with my children because of my ex moving 50 miles away from my residence without any notice to me or the court just after the Court decided on joint custody. Despite the court awarding me extra time with my children because of my ex being found in contempt of court, and despite the divorce decree saying that I should get even more time with my children in the summer months, Sally changed everything not only taking away my extra court appointed time and extra time in the summer months, but also indicating that I should do all the driving back and forth. In my opinion she has complete disregard for the orders of the Court, the legal system and men's rights, she rewards women for violating the court's orders and punishes the men with respect to their father's rights. In my opinion she cannot be trusted and should be avoided at all costs. In my opinion, if you are a male contemplating divorce or are in the midst of a divorce you should avoid her representation, or her having anything to do with your case, at all costs.
Ms. Lichter made recommendations. I keep emailing her, faxing her, and calling her. She has yet to follow up on those recommendations. The recommendation was great but without follow up it is very frustrating.
