About
The greatest compliment I hear repeatedly from clients is that I made the estate planning process less difficult than they imagined, that I explained complex concepts so they made sense, and that the documents I prepared for them were clear and understandable.

We have worked with Ruth over the last 10 years. She prepared and revised wills, trusts and powers of attorney for us as our circumstances changed. She would contact us if there was a change in the law that might impact our estate plan. In each case, she was delightful to work with, always explaining in detail all the issues we were dealing with and what our options were. She never hesitates to make recommendations based on what she believed were our desires and what was in our best interest. It was always clear to us that she had a clear understanding of the law, was up to date and could apply her knowledge and experience to our circumstances. She provided us with an organized binder of all our documents and wallet cards indicating that we had executed powers of attorney and who our agents were. We have recommended Ruth to our friends and family and will continue to do so.
My family hired Ruth about five years ago to review and update my elderly father's estate plan. My father had just moved to Milwaukee to be closer to us. Because he was in the early stages of Alzheimer's we wanted to get things in place while he was still able to participate fully and make sure his interests were best represented. I knew Ruth casually because our sons were in high school together. Because our sons were on the same soccer team we often sat together on the sidelines. I enjoyed getting to know Ruth and what really stood out to me was how gentle and kind she was to her elderly father when he came to watch the games with her. I knew she did estate planning and I thought she would be perfect for working with my dad. We were very happy we made the decision to work with her. She is very knowledgeable about all the options and came up with a plan that worked well for my dad and our family. One of the things I appreciated the most was the pacing she used when working with us and my dad. She was extremely patient and kind, and explained things as many times as we all needed. She did not overwhelm us with legalese but rather broke things down in a very simple manner so that everyone understood her thought processes. She used basic charts so my Dad had visuals to follow, and I admit, I referred to from time to time to refresh my memory! And even though our family is very close, she always had a private chat with my dad to make sure that her plans were his wishes. My step-mom also wanted to have her estate updated and wanted to hire Ruth, but Ruth did not want any conflict of interest so referred her to another attorney. While the estate planning process can be overwhelming I felt the entire experience with Ruth was terrific. We did not feel rushed and felt we were being given the utmost attention. Ruth explained the charges and helped us minimize them, gave us an idea of the cost, and stayed within that. When my father passed away last December, Ruth was again very warm and kind as she helped us through the process of settling his estate. She worked well with both our financial adviser and our tax preparer. Both were highly impressed by Ruth's creativity when she set things up for the estate so that we were able to maximize our inheritance. I would highly recommend Ruth for estate planning for any age.
I have had the pleasure of having Ruth J.Irvings as my attorney for many years. She has helped me with a domestic partnership contract, power of attorney contracts, and a personalized will. She has also provided me with helpful information regarding trusts and has been available to discuss many legal questions I have had with deep and helpful insights. I have, with confidence, referred Ruth to several of my clients. All have thanked me for the great referral!
