John practices in the areas of corporate, securities and business law. He was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 1994. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law, cum laude, where he served on the editorial board of the Journal of the Legal Profession and was selected as a member of the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society.After graduation, John served as a law clerk to Justice Champ Lyons on the Alabama Supreme Court and subsequently worked for Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) as a Legislative Counsel on the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary. He then practiced at two large Birmingham firms in the areas of public finance and corporate law, where he represented issuers and underwriters in more than 30 transactions with aggregate value of more than $2 billion. In John’s current practice he regularly represents emerging, high-growth companies in the biotech/life science, service, media, food, retail, manufacturing and software industries, as well as real estate owners and developers, often in capital-raising efforts.John also frequently represents individuals and entities making investments in early-stage companies. He has served on various committees for the Birmingham Bar Association and on the Board of Editors of Alabama Lawyer. In addition, he received the Governor’s Award for Distinguish Service to Alabama for his work on former Governor Bob Riley’s special commission on education spending. John has obtained an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has consistently been selected as a “Top Attorney” in business and corporate fields by both Birmingham Magazine and B Metro.He is an active member of the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama, Independent Presbyterian Church, the Dartmouth Club of Alabama, the Birmingham Venture Club, Children’s Hospital of Alabama Committee for the Future and the Birmingham Museum of Art.
