John Godbold, U.S. Court of Appeals for the (old) Fifth Circuit (1974-1975), handled appeals for the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, 1976-1980), primarily related to the case breaking up AT&T, United States vs. At&T, and then went into private practice in antitrust and interstate power regulation.In 1983, he established Landsman and Laster, one of the first elder law firms in the country; it became Landsman, Eakes and Laster in 1986; in 1990, Mr. Landsman established the present practice.He is a founding member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (1987); selected as a NAELA Fellow (1991); member of Board of Directors (2011 to present), joined as an initial member of the Special Needs Alliance, LLC.(2002).He has been rated “AV” (the top ratings for competence and ethics) by Martindale-Hubbellsince 1990, and he has consistently been selected for Maryland SuperLawyers and “Washington, D.C.’s Best Lawyers,” and “Top Lawyers” by Washingtonian Magazine in elder law .He co-founded, with Jason Frank, of Frank, Frank and Scherr, the First Maryland Disability Trust, Inc., in 2007, and is counsel to the Wesley Vinner Memorial Trust, managed by Shared Horizons, Inc., Washington, D.C. Both are “D-4-C” pooled special needs trusts.
