I hired Robert Garretson to represent me in a recent case. Overall, he was very smart and very informative. He gave me useful advice and knew what he was doing. I do have a few complaints though. 1) Respond to your clients in a timely fashion. There were numerous times when I needed to get into contact with him on an urgent matter regarding my case. There were numerous instances where I would send him an email or leave him a voicemail and I wouldn't hear anything back. After weeks of calling I would finally get though to him and his excuse was that he was "busy". There were numerous times where several weeks and/or months would pass by and I would have no idea where we are in the case. There was one instance where in the middle of my case, he left the country on a 3 week vacation without even telling me. I had to find out through one of his personal friends that he left the country. There were a few times where I wanted to fire him and get another lawyer to pick up the case, because I didn't hear from him for over a month at times. If you are reading this Robert, understand that your clients are paying you a lot of money, and they shouldn't have to wait 3-4 weeks for a response. They shouldn't have to send you multiple emails and leave multiple voicemails for a quick and simple answer. 2) Initially he said that the case would be resolved in less than a year. The case ended up taking almost 2 full years. Most of this was because of the aforementioned long wait times to even get in contact with him. If he actually worked on my case with reasonable effort, I'm sure that his initial promise could have been met. The only thing that he was quick at doing was cashing my check once the case was finally resolved. He claimed that he was too busy to respond to a 30 second email after multiple attempts and multiple weeks of waiting, while it takes him only one day to cash a check. I can see where your priorities lie Robert. If you are as busy as you claim that you are, then you shouldn't be taking on so many cases. The case was ultimately resolved in my favor, but it didn't have to take nearly as long as it did. You are very smart and intelligent, but your clients shouldn't have to wait so long for a response. And when you leave the country on vacation, please be kind and inform your clients ahead of time instead of simply disappearing.
