About

Casey Van Valkenburgh, Managing Attorney of Betras, Kopp & Markota’s South Carolina office, brings a wealth of skill, experience, and knowledge to the firm’s impressive multi-disciplinary legal team.A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Casey moved to South Carolina in 1993. He is a 1997 graduate of the College of Charleston where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and competed as a Division I athlete. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2001. He continued his studies at Washington University in St. Louis earning an LLM in Intellectual Property and Technology Law in 2002.Casey joined BK&M following a tenure as the Managing Attorney of a large regional firm in the Southeast. Casey was instrumental in growing his previous firm into a regional powerhouse that generated hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements, judgments, and verdicts for their clients.Although extremely successful, Casey began searching for the one thing he did not have managing a large firm: the freedom to work closely with and give his undivided attention to each and every client. He found that freedom at Betras, Kopp and Markota. “When I met David, Brian, and Justin I knew I had finally found my home,” Casey said. “Now I am practicing with a firm who genuinely care about every person who trusts us to represent them. Our clients aren’t numbers on a case file, they are people we genuinely care about and treat as if they are members of our own family.”Casey said he was also attracted to BK&M because it is a boutique law firm that offers concierge-like personal service to clients. “Our legal team, which includes four attorneys who are recognized as SuperLawyers, works together to deliver the results our clients want, need, and deserve,” Casey said. “Few firms can bring a comparable depth and breadth of expertise and experience to the courtroom or the negotiating table which explains why we win millions of dollars from America’s largest insurance companies case after case, client after client, year after year.It also explains why BK&M should be the first call South Carolinians make when they have a legal issue. “I want BK&M to be a trusted resource the people of South Carolina and their first call for all legal matters. Whether they have been injured in an accident, injured by a health care professional, or are involved in complex business litigation,” Casey said. “We are here to help, we are here to fight, we are here to win.”Casey, his wife Jessica and their sons Jack and Hudson reside in the Charleston area.
