I was admitted to the Mass. Bar in December of 1974.  In February, 1975, I was admitted to the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, and in May of 1979 to the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1977 I was elected a Selectman-Assessor in the Town of Bourne, Massachusetts.  Bourne was one of only 10 towns with full-time selectmen who ran the day-to-day affiars of the town, without a "professional administrator".  I held this position until May of 1995, when I returned to the full-time practice of law.
