About
Rick was born and raised in Orem, Utah, among the orchards and close to Provo Canyon and the proverbial great outdoors—no doubt where he fine tuned his love of archery, becoming a national archery champion when he was 15 and setting a world record in the animal targeting.Rick received his BA in political science with an emphasis in Russian language from the University of Utah. After a long and fruitful career in construction, Rick returned, in 1996, to pursue his law degree from the University of Utah College of Law, (now known as SJ Quinney College of Law) — where he served as an award-winning editor-in-chief of the Journal of Contemporary Law. After law school, Rick clerked for the Honorable Russell W. Bench at the Utah Court of Appeals.“I entered the practice of law later in life after many years working in the construction industry. I wanted a change. As an avid reader, so many of the historical figures I admired were lawyers: Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, and Abraham Lincoln. I found their life pursuits interesting and realized that law could be a good foundation for many career pursuits.”Rick’s practice emphasizes commercial litigation, construction law, contracts, real estate, liens, family law, and equine law. He is experienced in civil trials, mediation, arbitration, and appeals before the Utah Court of Appeals and Utah Supreme Court, covering a broad spectrum of issues.Rick represents a variety of companies, both large and small, including construction contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors. Rick appreciates the professional relationships he’s forged as a lawyer—serving numerous clients over many years—and counts many of his clients among his friends.“Folks often think law work is mostly paperwork and courtroom battles… But so much of the work I do in family and construction law is facilitated by the hard work of professional mediators. I am so thankful for the many talented mediators I work with and for their support in finding resolution to the important issues my clients bring to me.”When Rick isn’t working, you’ll find him riding horses, camping, or hiking. Rick and his wife have three children.
