About
I graduated from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2001, and I was admitted to practice law in Oklahoma in 2001. After clerking and interning for a trial attorney in the areas of civil litigation, family law, insurance bad faith, medical malpractice, guardianship, probate, and general practice I opened his own solo practice in 2001. I moved my practice to the Tarrant County area in 2007, and absolutely love the area. I primarily handle family law cases, but I also have experience in personal injury cases. I have been married for ten years, and I have three wonderful children with whom I am very active.

When I hired Rick, the odds were stacked against me, I had gotten into some really bad habits, and signed conservatorship over to my ex husband and was using drugs. Three years went by and my ex husband refused to even let me talk to my daughter's via telephone. When I decided to get clean, my ex husband let me have them for a few hours, and they began to tell me all of the horrible things he was doing, I decided not to let them go back. A few days thereafter the constable showed up to get them with a writ of attachment as well as a lawsuit, they were trying to throw the book at me. I had 2 weeks to come up with an attorney, or face up to 2 years in jail as well as paying a lump sum of fees and 10 years probation. I had no money, I literally felt hopeless. I was then referred to Rick. Seeing as how I was still unable to pass a drug screen, Rick had his work cut out for him. He was able to work with me on my payments. We went to court and both my ex husband and I had to drug test, we both failed. At that point the court issued temporary custody to his mother. My ex husband never completed anything the judge ordered and eventually stopped showing up to court. I then had to fight his mother for custody. Rick was always there to guide me through every step of this process. He was amazing in the court room, very assertive and knowledgeable. He could tell me exactly what the opposing council and judge were going to throw at me beforehand, thus he kept me prepared. He is also very respected by the judges. I was told by numerous attorneys I had interviewed that the chances of me winning this case were slim to none. Rick was able to not only get me my rights back, but won me full custody. He took me from no contact, to supervised visits, to FULL CUSTODY. I would, and have referred him to many people. He is by far the best attorney I have ever had the privilege of retaining. He doesn't just beat the odds, he conquers them.
I had hired attorney Rick Mitchell to assist me with simple child support modification agreement. Me and my kids mother had come to an agreement on past due arrears. Basically the deal was that she would forgive all past due arrears and in return I would provide her a large lump sum payment of a lesser amount. Sounds pretty easy huh? Not exactly. It turned out to be a very difficult situation one in which the chances of success was very minimal. First thing is that I live in Utah and needed an attorney in Texas. Rick had no problem with doing business over the email and phone. Best part is he made it so I was not required to be there or travel which was something I thought I would have to do. So I dealt with approx. 4 other attorneys in my time and would have put him at the top equal to just one other. I think that Rick Mitchell did a very good job. He exceeded my expectations as an attorney. His fees are reasonable, there in the middle or so about on average with others based off of quotes from two other attorney’s that I had looked into. Not the highest but not the lowest. But the good thing is that, whatever I expected the cost to be, is exactly what it turned out to be. Meaning that he made sure that I understood what the costs are, and it stayed as such. This is my first time encountering an attorney that didn’t add in all kinds of additional and unexpected fees. His costs/fees were simple to understand and was not cluttered with crazy things like faxing, copies, time spent driving, and talking to you on the phone, and the other crazy type of expenses I have seen with other attorney, stuff that shouldn’t be charged to begin with. The second point to mention is that he achieved all of what I had wanted to achieve, even the things that seemed very unlikely. If you actually knew the amounts that we are talking about with these arrears and the payment, you would understand why it was unlikely. Even if he had failed to achieve all my goals, I would still have left him a good review. Also I have left many negative reviews for past attorney’s that I’ve hired, and I hate having to do that because believe me reviews do make difference when people looking for an attorney. This is the first time I have left a positive review and I highly recommend him for legal services.
Rick helped me keep my daughter in my life. He was brutally honest with me and told me how it was most likely going to go with my situation as well as what I needed to do to get the results I was looking for. WHICH I GOT !!! He was pretty much spot on. Never once did he make promises he couldn't keep. He also informed me of things I could prepare myself to save money instead of nickle and dimming me which helped tremendously. I'm not sure if it's typical for him but he worked with me on my retainer. Without him I'm not sure if I would have ever got to be with my daughter again. Thank you Rick
Rick Mitchell is professional, assertive, and intelligent in handling custody cases. He was able to handle this messy custody case in a remarkably calm yet, effective manner and win it. I would recommend him if you can afford to pay without installments.
Without going in to case details, I do not recommend this law firm to anyone that is looking for aggressive family law representation. My review is not based on any outcome, but it is based on lack of attorney communication and courtroom performance. Mr. Mitchell is a nice person to your face, but will not aggressively fight for you and does not seem to listen to the needs of the client. It’s not very reassuring when you see your attorney laughing together with the opposing counsel in the hallway during breaks. Mindi in the front office was always a pleasure to work with.
I hired Mr. Mitchell to assist me with my daughter coming back home with me. I was open with him on my history and all that had transpired. He got to work quick but little did I know it wouldn't be in my favor. An amicus attorney was hired for my daughter and I was told her fees would be billed to the county as I told him I would not agree to her having an attorney because I had no more money. After was all said and done, on the court date I was not asked in the court room only my ex-husband and his family and Rick. Some Information I'd given him he wouldn't even view. He didn't try and help me at all, he cared nothing for my case or my daughter. I even had recordings. Nothing I brought to him he used. If ever I felt discriminated against it was surely this day as I am a black female and my ex-husband is white. I was trying to get my daughter because she is suicidal, she cuts and purges. The only way Mr. Mitchell helped me was to accumulate more bills. After court he sent me a bill for the amicus attorney, which he had previously told me I wouldn't have to worry about, letting me know I had to pay half of it. Oh and during the case I was getting frustrated and I told him I knew he wasn't on my side, then he threatened to go and relieve himself of my case, sure after he'd received $2500.00 from me. All I know is if you are a black or African American person, please do not hire this man. He will not work for you, trust me. I would have done better and probably had a better outcome representing myself. To those of you who don't most of attorneys are colleagues/associates/friends/partners. They council together and just about know the outcome of your case before it is complete. I pretty much paid this man to fight for my ex-husband.
