I graduated from Boston Latin School (‘76) and then went on to earn my degrees from Suffolk University and New England School of Law. I retired from the Boston Police as a Sergeant commanding one of Boston’s Drug Units. I spent many years working the streets and utilized this expertise to lecture Police Officers and Recruits at Police Academies and Colleges throughout the state, including Boston and surrounding towns, for over ten years. I was an instructor for the Mass. Criminal Justice Training Council in Criminal and Motor Vehicle laws, Warrants, Search and Seizures, Interrogations, Crime Scene and Evidence Collection as well as Drug Laws and Domestic Violence. I also lectured emergency room nurses and physicians on Domestic Violence, Sex Offenses and other related issues gaining a network of resources in police departments and hospitals throughout the state. I am a member of the Quincy and Norfolk Bar Association and I am a Past President of the Bar Association of Norfolk County as well as the former Judicial Liaison to the Norfolk County District Courts. I also served as Co-Chair of the Membership Committee and chair several other committees. I serve on the MBA's Joint Bar Committee on Judicial Appointments. I am an active member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Massachusetts Association of Trial Attorneys. Married with 2 children I am a past member of Westwood’s Finance Commission. Richard Sweeney was highly recommended to me by a mutual friend, I called him over the weekend on a DUI case and he promply met with me. Thought the process he explained my options and even won the case. I would highly recommend him for anyone needing an attorney in the Boston Area.
I hired attorney Sweeney in November 2021. At our meeting, he listened carefully, asked the right questions, laid the plan ahead and reassured me of what can ,and can not, be done. Attorney Sweeney answered all my follow up questions and always answered my unannounced phone calls. Attorney Sweeney was very honest with me, he is very knowledgeable and committed to his clients. His representation in court was flawless and diplomatic. I would hire attorney Sweeney in the future.
I was wrongfully charged of rape and I went through hell. Attorney Sweeney and his team treated me with respect and dove right into the case. They were able to show a lot of inconsistencies and the case was dropped when these were shown to the accuser. I highly recommend him. Not the cheapest but he is the best.

I hired the law firm of Sweeney and associates at the recommendation of a good friend (who was an assistant DA in Suffolk County). Rick Sweeney and Sabrina Bonanno were a great team for me. I had to go to court 16 times before these charges got dismissed. Either Rick or Sabrina showed up on time, all 16 times and on several occasions they both were there for me. Their were several other defendants in this case and ALL of them had their lawyer at least once no-show at their court appearance because they went to another court appearance, some of them no-showed several times. Rick and Sabrina were very thorough, spending many hours questioning me in there office and doing their own research on this case, making sure they had all of the information they needed to get the felony charges dismissed. I'd like to thank Rick and Sabrina for all the hard work they put into my case and of course for getting the felony charges dismissed. Sorry this review took so long to write, I guess I just wanted to forget the whole ordeal and put it behind me.
