Richard E. Shaw, “of counsel” to the firm, specializes in appellate law involving litigation in numerous substantive legal areas. Mr. Shaw has practiced in the appellate courts of Michigan (appearing in 600 cases), the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 4th, 6th, and 11th Circuits. Michigan Lawyers Weeklynamed Mr. Shaw 2001 attorney of the year for his work on three cases before the Michigan Supreme Court. Mr. Shaw received his B.A. in political science from Emory University, his M.A. and Candidacy for the Ph.D. in economics from Northwestern University, and his J.D. and L.L.M. in tax law from Wayne State University. Formerly a professor of economics and business, Mr. Shaw taught at Wayne State University (Department of Economics and School of Business, MBA program) and at Central Michigan University, Mt. Clemens Center, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Mr. Shaw has two cases before the Michigan Supreme Court during the current (2015-2016) term.
