About
Before devoting his professional efforts primarily to estate planning and related matters, Mr. Schneider spent over fifteen years working on Wall Street for major law firms and investment banks. Following law school, he practiced general civil law in New York City for five years, specializing in business transactions, financings and corporate matters. He also represented major investment banking firms in mortgage trading and real estate-related matters. Among his clients were international shipping companies, commercial and investment banks and institutional lenders, including General Electric Capital Corporation, Salomon Brothers and Merrill Lynch. For the next ten years, Mr. Schneider served as Senior Vice President at the investment-banking firm of Kidder Peabody, where he managed outside legal counsel for a variety of large financial transactions between major institutions. He played a central role in the creation of Kidder Peabody’s mortgage trading subsidiary, handling transactions with insurance companies, pension funds and government agencies. In 1996, Mr. Schneider established a residence in Portland, Oregon and shortly thereafter began a law practice serving clients from the greater Portland/Vancouver community. His motivations for moving to the Pacific Northwest were several: the natural scenic beauty of the landscape, the clean air and streets, the healthy, diversified economy and the overall high quality of life. Mr. Schneider is a member of the American Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. He is admitted to practice in the states of Oregon, Washington and New York. Mr. Schneider is the co-author of A Will is Not Enough in Oregon, a comprehensive resource guide for residents of Oregon to maximizing the control and protection of their personal assets through effective estate planning. Mr. Schneider is a frequent presenter on the topic of estate planning and has been invited to speak to many large corporations, small businesses and local community organizations. An honors graduate of Indiana University, Mr. Schneider received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law in 1981.While in law school, Mr. Schneider received the prestigious American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in Commercial Law. One of Mr. Schneider’s main motivations in devoting his practice to estate planning has been his desire to have a positive impact on the lives of real people, rather than simply furthering the impersonal workings of large institutions. He also directly experienced the importance of estate planning when his father passed away. Mr. Schneider is committed to helping the many individuals and families who place their trust in his ability, experience and integrity in securing the future and easing the burden on their loved ones.

Although its been a while (August 2016) since Mr. Schneider's office help us with our needs, after apologizing for our delay, all we can say is that a process we thought was going to be a pain in the butt, it ended up in a short process and a total success. Thanks you!
Very please with Mr. Schneider. He listens well, answers questions, anticipates needs. Everything was explained well, done on time, and there is plenty of follow-up. I recommend him heartily.
Before we met Richard, we had nothing in order -- a very very outdated will (somewhere) that didn't reflect a single aspect of our current life, kids, home, investment property, business etc. After meeting Richard, we have peace of mind! We have a living trust, will, designated guardian for our daughter, person to make medical decisions if we can't, signed docs giving us power to make medical decisions for each other, on and on. We have an enormous binder with all these documents including extremely detailed and helpful information for our next of kin and executor, should something happen to us. Richard and his team make this very straight forward and easy. They kept stressing that we can call any time with questions (no charge) and in 3 years we'll sit for a review of it all (free). This was painless.
We are very pleased with our Estate planning and feel we have purchased a product that will not need to be replaced. I also feel it will be easy for our family to follow up with an attorney when were gone if needed. Ben, his attorney on staff, is very knowledgeable and was professional and helpful.
Mr. Schneider provided me with my estate planning portfolio, which included updating my will, property power of attorney, health care power of attorney, authorization to disclose protected health information, nomination of guardian and conservator and appointment of person to make decisions concerning disposition of remains. All of these documents were organized into a binder, along with other forms for me to use in making my wishes known to my appointees and heirs. He was very professional in our interactions, answered my questions to my satisfaction and explained terms and other legal jargon in an understandable way. Thanks to Mr. Schneider and his staff, my estate planning is up to date and clearly organized, which is a great relief.
When I attended one of Richard Schneider's estate planning seminars, I knew I had found the right attorney to prepare my Will. Richard made the complicated issues clear and understandable to the lay person, and my confidence in his firm only grew as I met him for the initial consultation and then proceeded with the documents. They are so professional, and they have thought of everything! In addition to the original notarized documents (which include many more than the Will itself), they presented me with a beautiful binder with all of my copies, step-by-step procedures for my designated representative, lists of people to contact upon my death, where important papers are kept, and more. The fixed fee is a blessing. Further, they welcome follow-up questions from both me and from my personal representative, at no additional charge. I couldn't be happier with the services provided by Richard and his associate, Ben, and I'm grateful to have the peace of mind of having these important documents in place.
We were apprehensive about getting a will made. To many unknowns and confusing questions. Richard Schneider and staff made the experience easy to understand and as expeditious as possible. The follow up and any questions have been handled quickly and to our satisfaction. They also provide a newsletter and various seminars and learning opportunities throughout the year.
I had read that this chap was going to speak on family trusts at a local Sr. Center (a place I never go to) - attended and was convinced that Schneider was just the attorney I was looking for. That was some years ago - and still pleased.
Richard took care of some complex problems and took the time to explain and answer all of my questions so I could understand as fully as I wanted. He did not charge me for phone calls, and always returned my calls in a timely manner,. I also made use of his associate tax attorney Erin Evers, and am very happy with the work they did for me. His firm hosts an annual client appreciation event which is also very informative in a relaxing and enjoyable setting.
Recently, I updated my "death" documents to fit my current needs. Because a grandchild not born at the time of my original will, etc., has since been diagnosed as having special needs, I wanted to provide in the best way for his future, along with the other typically-developing grandchildren. I was very impressed to find that Richard had already put in the necessary verbiage to cover that eventuality. He also reminded me, when I asked about a way to keep track of all my details necessary for my family, that he already provided such materials in my "Notebook". My update--as well as my original documents made several years ago--were thorough and well done. I also found it pleasant to work with him and others in the office.
