Rick was an expert, professional, accessible and friendly guide through my case, which was a very complicated one involving international jurisdictional issues, prolonged intransigence on the opposing side, messy finances and child sharing issues. What I discovered in this 1+ year journey is that in this area of the law there are rarely hard and fast rules and answers, so the importance of judgement and experience - having seen how something typically plays out in this area - and of knowing many of the players on the local scene, is paramount. Rick excels in this, and couples this experience and judgment with being frank and straightforward (whether the news is good or bad) in the substance of counsel, and sympathetic on the interpersonal side. So overall I felt very well served and would highly recommend him.
A great mix of legal savvy and a practical approach. He demonstrated a thorough grasp of legal issues my spouse's lawyer (V. Freitas) did not spot and probably did not understand. He presented me with both sides, and I sometimes did not take his advice. He never held that against me, and in fact advocated brilliantly just the same. A true lawyer's lawyer who will look out for you and the bigger picture.
Divorces are always bitter and choosing a good lawyer and a good paralegal is extremely important for this process. Kate and Rick are highly recommended. Lots of reasons for that - Rick has a lot of experience. He knows other lawyers as well as judges in town so you will know what to expect - good or bad. - You may not realize right now but paralegals are super important in this process and again Kate and her experience is super helpful. - My case was unique since before filing I had moved out of state. All discussions happened over phone and emails - no issues at all. - Even though I was separating I wanted the process and division of property to be fair. Rick is ethical and no nonsense kind of lawyer and worked well in my case.
I can’t say enough good things about Rick Hart. He was always there for questions and if I ever needed to vent. He handled my two year long divorce with class. Rick didn’t leave any stone unturned when it came to preparing a thorough case. He was supportive and looked out for my best interest. I would suggest Rick Hart to anyone who needs a divorce attorney that is dedicated.
Rick and his Paralegal, Kate, were OUTSTANDING in representing me in a nasty divorce. Both were very accessible and on more than one occasion walked me back from "edge of the cliff". Rick brings a business approach to his legal proceedings.
I hired Richard for my divorce case. I first met with him and understood everything he had to advise and recommend. he was very honest and clear. He advised me of the best track to go through. We started working on the case and his paralegal was also very professional. It was a smooth and easy experience working with Richard and his assistant from preparing the documents, filing the petition and then finalizing the divorce later by submitting final pleading. Everything took around 4 months in total with a smooth and professional attitude from him and his office. I bugged them with bunch of questions and details and they responded to everything clearly and tirelessly. They addressed all my concerns and adjusted all the forms in a way that met all my concerns. Thanks a million for providing this amazing experience and finalizing my divorce in a very professional manner! :)
Richard was the mediator for the end of our long-term marriage. He was patient, respectful (I appeared pro se), and in the end helped me swallow a bitter pill - that was actually not so bitter, when I had time to think about it. Given the circumstances, the end result was actually a lot better than opposing counsel's original demand. At the end of it all, I'm free! Without Richard's help, I might have remained tethered to the dead husk of this marriage for many years.
I came to Rick half-way through a divorce that had not been handled well by my original attorney, and was going very badly. Rick completely turned the tables and I ended up with a settlement that was significantly better than I had previously thought possible. Rick is incredibly focused. He doesn’t waste a lot of time with small talk, but I also found him to be personable and always available when I needed him. His professional conduct, particularly with the opposing council, eased the hostility that had built up prior to me retaining him. I could not have hoped for an attorney more professional in crafting clear, cogent, and compelling legal positions, more skillful in the nuances of defusing adversarial emotions, or more unwavering in his advocacy of my interests. I was not pleased to be in a divorce, but with Rick’s direction and guidance, I believe I got the best possible outcome.
Fantastic, experienced attorney who is fair and balanced by default but, having seen him in action in a court room, I can attest to the fact that he is more than capable of going in hard and heavy when needed. This is a tough process for all involved and having someone in your corner who can guide you through all the jargon and paperwork, and has seen it all before, was a huge comfort. I have no hesitation recommending Rick and his team to anyone and am very grateful for all his work, and support, through my own divorce.
I found Rick through AVVO and he caught my attention with the fact that he focuses on representing clients from major technology companies. Being an engineer, I opted to meet with him in person for an initial consultation and was so impressed that I ended up hiring him as my lawyer. Rick initially carefully guided me through a contentious request from my ex for a ridiculous amount of money for spousal support, child support, post-secondary education support, etc. after my separation. We ended up deciding to fight in court since any negotiations with opposing counsel proofed to be completely futile. He performed brilliantly, made the opposing side look pretty bad in front of the judge (I almost felt sorry for them) and we basically got everything that we wanted. This was then followed by over a year of discovery requests, accusations of non-compliance on matters (which was the farthest thing from the true), threats of holding us in contempt, more and more continuous requests, etc. What I really liked about Rick was his ability to keep his cool, he understood the process, the games, the waste of time and resources, he tried to reason with opposing counsel, encouraged me when I could do some of the work myself, which helped keep down my overall costs, and got me through this arduous process. Had it not been for Rick, this process would have cost me a real fortune and after a year, of this, the opposing side found nothing that we hadn’t put on the table right from the start. I can only imagine what my ex spent on this! As we finally headed into a mediation meeting, Rick was very clear about explaining the risk/reward aspects of every issue and he outlined things very well to help me understand what things he thought were worth fighting over and what items are likely to be just a low Return on Investment. He genuinely wants the best for his clients and does a very good job of communicating expected outcomes based on previous court rulings. Working with Rick and his office felt like working with friends. Rick definitely isn't one of those lawyers who seeks to fight over every meaningless item just to rake up billable hours, but rather he focuses on what really matters most at the end of the day. He understands the law well and has a wealth of knowledge and experience to be able to provide good guidance on how he thinks a court might rule on the issues. In the end, I gave in somewhat in order to stay out of what was starting to look to be the makings of a long protracted costly court battle, but I still think we came out of it with a fair settlement (better than many I have seen at my work). I would highly recommend Rick as a consultant in an amicable divorce (which was the original goal when this whole process initially started) or as a strong lawyer in a highly contested case if need be (where I ended up). Thanks Rick, job well done!
