Sheila Potter is a trial attorney who represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation. She helps her clients protect and enforce their rights and their financial interests, especially in the areas of contract disputes, litigation arising out of director misconduct or dissolution of close or family corporations, shareholder disputes, trade secret claims, and securities litigation. Ms. Potter also has significant experience in assisting her clients with complex defamation issues and complicated or unusual interpersonal disputes.She has tried cases to juries in matters ranging from intentional infliction of emotional distress to contract disputes, has experience in successfully obtaining temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions to protect her clients' business interests, and she has prepared numerous challenges to her opponents' expert testimony and evidence. Her extensive litigation experience also includes representation of large national and multinational corporations in contract disputes over commercial general liability and property insurance, with an emphasis on mold and environmental claims.Ms. Potter is frequently called upon for her expertise in major motion practice and for her written and oral advocacy in court. She has repeatedly won major motions for summary judgment for her clients, defeating claims against her clients before trial and protecting her clients' claims against their opponents' summary judgment motions. She is the editor of Bullivant's Style Guide for lawyers and trains young attorneys on writing for the courts. She is a long-term member of the Bullivant hiring committee and has served as a mentor to other attorneys for many years, formally and informally, including through the Oregon State Bar mentor program and Bullivant's own mentor program.Before joining the firm, Ms. Potter clerked for the Honorable Ellen F. Rosenblum in the Multnomah County Circuit Court, before Judge Rosenblum was appointed to the Oregon Court of Appeals. Ms. Potter recently served a three-year term on the Multnomah Bar Association Judicial Screening Committee (which screens judicial candidates and makes recommendations to the Governor), and is currently a member of the Multnomah Bar Association Court Liaison Committee.
