About
Attorney Coatoam attended Kenyon College where he received his B.A. in PoliticalScience in 2005. From there, he briefly pursued careers in carpentry, political finance, and data management, working for local construction companies, U.S. Congressional campaigns, and national non-profit organizations. Mr. Coatoam attended Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and graduated summa cum laude in 2016.Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ray could never have afforded a lawyer. This is somethinghe always keeps in mind when speaking with a potential client. During the 11 year gapbetween his degrees, Ray spent his professional life pursuing one cause or another -- when he wasn’t working construction or tending bar. As a Finance Director for U.S. Congressional campaigns, Attorney Coatoam lived andworked in multiple states, sometimes working 20-hour days 6-7 days per week. He was often the first member of the campaign to be hired, meaning he would have to raise his first pay check and work without an office or support staff. While attending law school at night, Ray worked full-time for a non-profit organization focused on cancer research. He spent his weekends in the law library and used all of his vacation and sick days to study for finals. He now brings this energy and determination to his client’s causes.Ray enjoys defending againstevictions, fighting with debt collectors andinsurance companies, and suing jerks when they've done something to deserve it. As a commitment to the community, he accepts appointments from various municipal and county courts, and the occasional legal aid referral.Attorney Coatoam has a growing expertise in Estate Administration, Personal Injurycases and Family Law, both in domestic relations court as well as in juvenile court. Ray is experienced in Divorces and Dissolutions, Custody fights, Civil Protection Orders,Bankruptcy, Real Estate partitions, Neighbor Disputes, and Criminal Defense.Admissions:-Ohio, 2018-U.S. District Court Northern District of Ohio, 2019EducationKenyon College, Gambier, OHB.A. – 2005Cleveland-Marshall College of LawJ.D. summa cum laude – 2016Professional Associations:Ohio State Bar AssociationAshtabula County Bar AssociationLake County Bar Association
