Going on two years ago, I retained Mr. Koebel to represent me in a fairly complex matter. I thought that, at the time, his retainer of $4k was high but when I saw the amount of work involved and, considering the typical attorney hourly rate was about $300, I now conclude that I got a bargain, yes. He is the hardest working attorney I know. It is not unusual to see him in his office at midnight and all weekend. I recently recommended a client to him. She called and got a disconnected message. At 11:00 PM one night, I called his number to double check. He picked up. The guy is super smart. He works outside the box, very creative thinking. Finally, Mr. Kobel takes all sorts of societal issues like police misconduct in Pasadena. While this would not be a factor I would consider in selecting an attorney, it was good to know that your attorney also has a social conscience. If I had an issue in the bankruptcy / foreclosure arena, this is the attorney I would want to represent me.
Had consultations with Koebel. Very smart attorney and he lets you know it. However, he lacks skill and tack in dealing with people to the point of being extremely rude. As smart as he is, his arrogance overshadows any good qualities he may have. Clearly would be a pain to work with.
