About

As a United States Army veteran, former assistant district attorney, and former defense attorney for the largest auto insurer in New York, Peter Mayer holds wide-ranging experience in criminal and civil litigation, and is respected throughout Long Island for his expertise and tireless work ethic. During his six years in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Mayer conducted arraignments, pre-trial negotiations, motion practice and disposed of hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases. He spent two years in the prestigious Major Crime Bureau, and gained vast trial experience. In 2013 the District Attorney promoted Mr. Mayer to the then newly created Vehicular Crime Bureau, where he specialized in prosecutions of felony cases involving often violent vehicular crimes, including DWI offenses. After leaving the District Attorney’s office, Mr. Mayer earned a position as staff attorney at one of the nation’s largest auto insurers. During his tenure with the company, Mr. Mayer defended hundreds of drivers and vehicle-owners in Suffolk, Nassau and Queens against claims of bodily injury and property damage. He consistently obtained verdicts or settlements that saved clients and the carrier hundreds of thousands of dollars. A member of the Suffolk County Bar Association and New York Academy of Trial Lawyers, Mr. Mayer graduated cum laude from Touro College’s Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center and earned the CALI Academic Excellence Awards, given to the highest grade in the class, in Legal Methods II for Best Brief, International Law and American Legal Studies Practicum. He graduated with high distinction from George Mason University with a bachelor of individualized studies in legal studies. Mr. Mayer spent three years in the United States Army as a member of the 3rd United States Infantry Honor Guard (The “Old Guard”), the Army’s premier ceremonial unit and Escort to the President of the United States. He received three Army Achievement Medals, one Army Service Ribbon, and numerous certificates of appreciation and achievement for outstanding leadership and service. Mr. Mayer understands the stress and difficulty involved with being put through litigation, and he is ready to put his skills to work for you.

My daughter got in trouble for a huge drug problem. She was facing major prison time. Mr. Mayer was able to get her into drug court and help her receive the treatment she needed. She recently celebrated a year sober, has a job and is looking towards get her associates degree. Mr. Mayer cares. I called him many times with so much concern for my daughter. He answered every one of my questions but never sugar coated everything. My family and I are forever grateful for his help.

I retained Mr. Mayer to handle a personal traffic violation I had in Suffolk County. Because of my busy work schedule and the fact that I reside about 35 miles away from the courthouse, I failed to make prior scheduled court appearances, and what should have been a simple matter led to a license and registration suspension. Mr. Mayer's knowledge of the law and the misdemeanor violations that were raised against me was on-point. He was able to re-instate my license and registration and negotiate a reduced plea to a traffic violation with zero points on my license. Personable and responsive ... highly recommended for local traffic and criminal matters.
