I’ve always been a bit of a theater kid at heart. Whether it’s giving a focused closing argument in trial, incrementally advancing a client’s interests in a negotiation, developing and delivering crisis response communications, or taking to a literal stage, I draw immense satisfaction from the care, craft, and passion required for effective, strategic communications. I know firsthand the importance of a calm, focused, and credible presence in dynamic situations. When eyes are watching and the pressure is on, I thrive.Persuasion is just one side of the legal practice coin, however. While it’s good to be able to call the fireman, it’s usually faster, cheaper, and less dramatic to buy a fire extinguisher in advance. The keys to an effective organizational risk management strategy are stakeholders that understand the whats, the whys, and the hows of compliance on their terms. I have always devoted a large part of my practice to sharing my knowledge, whether with individuals or groups, engaging ordinary people to care about the practical impacts of abstract legal concepts.I have had the privilege of serving in the military for a large portion of my adult and professional life. While I’ve drawn many lessons from those experiences, the most important will always be the fundamental value of people and relationships. I love building diverse, effective teams where everyone has a voice, a role, and a meaningful opportunity to contribute. I love taking the time and the effort, fielding the phone calls and emails, to make sure our partners know that they’re valued. Our business is a relationship business.
