Patrick Foley specializes in management-side employment litigation, representing both large and small employers. Patrick also serves as Associate General Counsel in the firm’s Corporate Counsel practice, where he provides comprehensive legal services in contract negotiations, IP portfolio management and development, and other areas of corporate concern. Additionally, in the public sector, Patrick defends local municipalities and public agencies in matters of employment. In his two years at Holtz & Reed, Patrick has played an integral role in several of the firm’s major litigation victories, including Shervin v. Partners HealthCare System, Inc. et al. (successfully defending Partners and the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization against claims of gender discrimination and retaliation); Esler v. Sylvia-Reardon et al. (securing JNOV to invalidate jury award of more than $1.2 million against Massachusetts General Hospital); and Steward Health Care System LLC v. Boston Globe Media Partners LLC (winning declaratory action to relieve health care provider of HIPAA privacy restrictions to rebut patient’s allegations of mistreatment in prospective Boston Globe news story). Prior to joining Holtz & Reed, Patrick served as a judicial clerk at the Massachusetts Court of Appeals and worked for a private firm specializing in admiralty law. Patrick attended Suffolk University Law School, where he graduated cum laude and served on Law Review. His publications includeOil and Water: How the Polluted Wake of the Exxon Valdez Has Endangered the Essence of Punitive Damages, 43 Suffolk U. L. Rev. 475 (2010). Patrick is also a graduate of Belmont Hill School and Trinity College, where he played Varsity Football.
