About

Attorney Miranda Richard advises clients in the transitions of life (and the moments in between). The firm focuses on:Attorney Richard is also a Veterans Affairs Accredited Attorney and assists clients with overlaying Veterans Affairs Aid & Attendance benefits with long-term care Medicaid benefits where appropriate and applicable.Elder-Centered Background:Attorney Richard comes from a line of nurses and caretakers as her grandmother worked as an in-home care provider and her mother was a Director of Nursing at various nursing communities when Miranda was a child. She grew up listening to their different perspectives on the challenges faced by those who receive and provide care. Miranda also worked two years in a nursing community as an evening cook as she paid her way through her undergraduate degree and interacted with residents and staff in that position.Prior Legal Experience:Miranda started her legal career as a Deputy Prosecutor in Hendricks County, Indiana. She began with handling misdemeanor and felony domestic violence matters and later transitioned to handling general misdemeanors and felonies. This included all aspects of cases from charging decisions through trial. However, after over five years in that field, she found herself navigating to the same care-centered path she grew up surrounded by. Miranda practiced for seven years as an elder law focused attorney at Dillman Law Group, which later became Applegate & Dillman Elder Law.She managed and supervised the Medicaid department for most of her seven years there. This work also touched on many other areas of law, including trusts, estates, probate, guardianship, real property transactions, business law, and residents' rights matters.Current Work: Miranda Rose Richard, Attorney at LawMiranda founded her own solo firm in September 2020. With a general focus on elder law related matters she is able to continue to assist a population she has always enjoyed working with and assisting with both simple and complex matters in their lives. She believes legal work is more than a transaction - it is a piece of each client's story and experience. She strives to embrace her clients' stories as she works with them through their journeys.Miranda's firm focuses on going to her clients' homes when possible for elder law related matters in order to remove the barriers that often are involved with meeting with an attorney when clients have limited mobility or other factors that make leaving the home difficult. Also, she finds it is typically a more relaxing place for her clients to discuss their legal needs.Personal and Educational Background:Miranda graduated from Indiana University - Indianapolis with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. She obtained her Juris Doctorate degree from Indiana University's Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2006.While attending law school, she participated in a judicial externship with the Honorable Judge James S. Kirsch at the Indiana Court of Appeals and she was a member of the Indiana Law Review, where she served as a Note Development Editor.Miranda lives in Little Flower with her husband Jeff, son Max, and their three cats: Freyja, Marmalade, and Bartleby (who are terribly spoiled). She enjoys camping, hiking, gardening, visiting and learning about historical locations, and spending time with her family.Speaking Engagements:Miranda periodically teaches others on Medicaid-related matters through the National Business Institute and is also open to providing presentations elsewhere. To schedule an appointment with Miranda or find out additional information about the services she offers, call 317-775-8314 or email [email protected]
