About
Michele M. Vallat has been a family law attorney in San Diego since graduating from California Western School of Law. She vigorously advocates for her clients in a non-aggressive manner; her preference is to negotiate issues, reducing costs to her clients. She typically handles custody, divorce, support, property division, reimbursement, and Department of Child Support matters. She does not stand on formality and prefers to be called Val. You will see her passion for golf and her dogs when visiting her office, as evidence of both are prominently displayed. In fact, there is almost always one dog present at the Law Office of William R. Fuhrman each day.

I retained the WRF law firm, and was assigned Val to handle my custody update case. Val was very professional and easy to work with, and kept in constant contact with me despite her full case load. I never felt as though I was "just another case" - she took the time to explain things thoroughly, and made sure I understood all of the options and outcomes during the proceedings. Everything went very smoothly, and I was able to successfully get the custody arrangement I wanted. I'm very grateful to the firm and Val, and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for Family Law assistance.
Val represented me through my divorce. I was married 30 years with my ex husband being the main breadwinner for years and the only breadwinner through most of my now adult children’s lives. Val was very efficient at getting me alimony and back alimony ASAP. She helped me navigate through all the financial stresses with fairness and keeping my costs down. In addition, she helped me get through the emotional toll divorce takes on a person. My ex even found her to be fair. Val has a gift that goes beyond her legal expertise. As some of the other reviews stated, she is easy to talk to and explains what is happening every step of the way. She is prompt to return calls or emails. I would highly recommend her!
Val has great attention to detail and wasn't afraid to stand up for me and my son. I highly recommend her. She knows what works and really cares. A+
Divorce is the worst thing you're going to go through. 99% of the time you dislike your ex. If you're going to get a divorce lawyer who really represents your interest look no further than Michele Vallat. Michele understood the misery I had been going through for four long years. I had been accused of molesting my son, abusing him, & a victim of two cold and calculated fabricated TRO's. Finally after four years Michele and her firm achieved what I thought was the impossible. My ex wife, "The Teflon Mom" lost her joint custody. Now I have primary custody. I was vindicated! Michele Vallat handled the situation professionally and correctly. She kept me in check and I was always made aware of what we being done on my behalf. Divorce is difficult and it doesn't matter whether you're the husband or wife. What matters is that it gets handled right the first time. I had three lawyers represent me prior to Michele. What a colossal waste of time and money. Do yourself a favor and meet with Michele and her firm. You'll be glad you did!
I had an extremely lengthy and difficult family law case. I started the journey with high powered, expensive lawyers from Los Angeles and changed to a different San Diego law firm. Neither of them accomplished one thing for me and caused me huge financial losses and emotional distress. Off the referral of a friend I tried Ms. Vallant's firm not expecting a lot. When "Val" and I started working together we immediately hit it off. She was incredibly knowledgable on family law and her personality is very easy to work with. Definitely not the attitude I have grown to hate in 99% of other attorneys that think they know everything and really just have a overblown ego and are idiots. When Val first started working with me she ask me what my ultimate goal was and we made a long term plan to work towards it. SHE GOT IT DONE. I am happy to report that Val accomplished what $900 an hour lawyers could not. We took small steps toward the big picture and I ultimately got what worked best for myself and my children. I would not hesitate to recommend Val in high profile, move away, or any other family matter. She will get it done and not give up!
For other attorneys, I would recommend contacting "Val" for discovery-related questions. I'm new and an associate, slightly afraid of my boss :) I received a "bad response" to an RFP with tons of objections from an L.A. attorney, who was clearly trying to give me the run around. At court when talking with a colleague, I had heard that Val was knowledgeable with discovery, and that she was "so nice," so I gave her a call. She took one brief look at the response and said, "yeah, you're going to need a "meet and confer" letter and probably a motion to further compel." She reviewed my draft "meet and confer" letter, and fixed it (A LOT) to hit its mark. Opposing Counsel redrafted the responses to take out a considerable amount of fluff objections and produced the requested documents without the need of filing a motion. She really is nice and generous with her time, and her doggie sidekick was just the cutest! My boss gave me props, so I'm endorsing Val to really give credit where credit is due.
Val handled every aspect of my case in a caring and compassionate manner. Kept me on even keel when things at times were very off balance for me. She balanced my case keeping the financial aspect and the goals within perspective. Excellent communications from start to finish.
I call Michelle M. Vallat the "unattorney" because she is unlike your typical Family Law attrorney. You actually forget you are dealing with a lawyer when working with her. She takes a genuine interest in you and your case and moves toward resolution very efficiently. She is compassionate and above all very intelligent. She also has great attention to detail and is very effective and skilled at handling property division and equalization of assets. Michelle was able to very quickly figure out a property division settlement for me when other attorneys could not. She also knows how to effectively work within the Family Law system where other attorney's believe it exists to serve them. I would recommend Michelle M. Vallat to anyone contemplating divorce or anyone currently unhappy with their existing representation looking to make a change. She will get the job done!
I was referred to Bill. He was kindof intimidating, but lawyers are supposed to be right? He had Val work on my case. She's awesome not stuffy or intimidating. She didn't talk over my head or treat me bad when I didn't understand. She got along with my Ex's attorney, and that made it go faster. We settled and Ex and I are still friendly. I recommend Val.
I have delt with other attorney's in the past who won't return phone calls or take the time to really become personable about my case. I highly recommend Michele Vallat to anyone seeking agressive, reliable representation, one who truly cares about her clients! She always has gotten back to me ASAP and took the time with out charging me to explain in detail wht i did not understand. She is wonderful!
