Burns was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and spent her childhood in Kentwood, Michigan, except for one year spent living in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Michelle earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Michigan State University: Political Science and Criminal Justice. She received her Juris Doctor from the Michigan State University College of Law.During her free time, Michelle coaches East Kentwood High School's We the People Team, which is a competition based on governement and the Constitution.
