Michael J. Freestone, a Partner in Tully Rinckey PLLC’s Washington, D.C. office, focuses his practice on business immigration law. With more than eight years of experience practicing immigration law, he advises individual and corporate clients on a variety of immigration-related issues. Michael has extensive experience working with employers of all sizes in a variety of industries, including medical research, software development, the steel industry, construction, aerospace, religious organizations, entrepreneurs, and individuals of exceptional ability.Michael’s work includes all types of non‐immigrant petitions, visa and consular issues, employment- and family-based immigrant petitions, adjustment of status applications, and naturalization. He specializes in strategic immigration planning with a focus on long-term strategies, as well as creating robust immigration law compliance programs. Michael has experience working closely with investors and entrepreneurs to help create a successful immigration solution for their needs. His educational background is in International Law, International Business, International Trade, Finance, and Foreign Direct Investment.Michael began his legal career as an immigration paralegal in Washington, D.C. He completed internships at Baker & McKenzie and Freshfields Bruckhaus Derringer in London. Prior to joining Palma Yanni, P.C. he worked as an Associate at Dickstein Shapiro, LLP, in Washington D.C. He has also consulted as a writer and researcher for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia. He is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association. Michael has devoted time to multiple pro‐bono immigration activities, including immigration work for a local theatre company and advice and counseling on nonimmigrant visas for victims of crime including attempted murder, battery, assault and domestic abuse. He also obtained visas for 30 previously displaced Haitian nationals to enter the United States to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy as a gesture of appreciation for U.S. aid following the devastating earthquake of 2010.Michael is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, (B.A. 2003), where he received a first for his dissertation and a Socrates scholarship to study in Belgium, and obtained his LL.B., specializing in Business Law, from BPP University College London. He completed LL.Ms in International and Comparative Law and U.S. Law at the George Washington University Law School. While obtaining his masters, he served as a case reporter for the Oxford Journal of International Law in Domestic Courts, where he covered International Law issues arising in several Supreme Court terms, the First Circuit and the State of New York.
