About

Michael Adelman of Hattiesburg received his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1962 and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1967.  He was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1974.  He is also a member of the Michigan Bar. He is a partner in Adelman & Steen, L.L.P. Mr. Adelman’s practice focuses on criminal defense, personal injury, employment law and labor law.  He also handles administrative law cases, including matters in the areas of education, employment discrimination and public utilities.  He has argued numerous criminal and civil cases before the Mississippi Supreme Court and the Mississippi Court of Appeals.  He is a past President of the South Central Mississippi Bar Association and presently holds the position of Chair of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Center for Legal Services.  He s the author of two published short stories. Adelman recently won a landmark victory in the Mississippi Supreme Court in which he opposed the attempt by Mississippi Power Company to increase rates for the construction of the Kemper County IGCC Plant prior to its operation.  He also won a recent case in the Forrest County Chancery Court opposing the attempt by Groundworx, Inc. to have the City of Hattiesburg finance Groundworx’s sewer disposal and ground application process.
