Melissa Schilling, a Burlington, Iowa native, focuses her practice on traditional labor law and employment litigation. She has experience in grievance and interest arbitration cases, contract negotiations, and unfair labor practice charges, as well as state and federal litigation involving a broad range of labor and employment laws, including discrimination cases under Title VII and state civil rights acts, ADA, and ADEA. She has also counseled employers on a wide range of labor and employment issues and policies, including FMLA and workplace medical issues, technology issues, and discipline matters.In addition to labor and employment law, Melissa represents real estate companies, condominium associations, and homeowner associations before the Iowa Civil Rights Commission.  Melissa’s practice also includes representing real estate companies, banks, and insurance companies in commercial litigation.Melissa began her career as a judicial law clerk for Iowa’s Seventh Judicial District, where she researched and drafted proposed rulings on a wide range of civil and criminal matters. Immediately prior to joining Dickinson law, Melissa practiced labor and employment law with a Chicago law firm, where she represented primarily public employers, including Public Safety Departments, in state and federal litigation, grievance arbitration, and matters pending before the Illinois Labor Relations Board.
