I had a case that involved the interpretation of orders from two different states (one had been dismissed after two years of being the current order) and a third state garnishing my earnings to pay support. I had struggled with trying to find an attorney to take my case and give me a current support order from March of 2012 until March of 2019. I had tried to take my case to court in two states my residence as well the state that my daughter resides in and never received an order or even clarification of which state owned my order. My case was originally in South Carolina however being active duty military and moving multiple times with the addition of my children living extended periods with their mother and at other times living with me. My case was left to interpretation of DSS in the state that my former spouse lives and me being strung along by that state and being charged with thousands of dollars in arrears. Melissa Arnold was the only attorney that would take my case, every lawyer and law firm that I contacted gave me the same answer “your case is too complicated I don’t think that I can help you”. I received this response from attorneys in the date that controls the order as well as the state that was collecting support. My first meeting with Melissa was right after I had a meeting with DSS in which they told me that they agreed with me and told me my new monthly support amount. However, I never received any signed order or documentation in any way they stated any type of agreement. After my consultation Melissa told me my options and explained to me my best case and worst case possible results. I retained Mrs. Arnold and she immediately went to work researching my case and in less than two weeks we had a signed agreement with support amount established, control of the order established, a fair agreement on arrears, and clarification between the states on who collects and enforces my child support.
