Maureen was the third lawyer with whom I spoke about my need to file for divorce. I chose Maureen to represent me because of her ability to look beyond the conversation toward what it may take to reach the objective. She was always attentive to my concerns and brought me back to focus when it seemed to me that the situation may be going sideways. She has a sense of compassion that managed to bring calm to a very stressful situation. She prepared me for any outcome; good, bad or indifferent. Maureen guided me through each step of the process so that I was included. I knew then as I know now that Maureen is a professional that displays a tremendous level of integrity, compassion, patience and interest in the task at hand.
From the moment of my first meeting with Maureen she made it clear she was in my corner and ready to go to bat. She was very nurturing and also a very strong, knowledgeable and talented attorney. She got me a very good result and did it in a way to where my ex husband and I are still friendly. She and Teresa have even been very helpful with paperwork and advice after the whole process has been over.
Maureen is fast, experienced, confident, perceptive, and passionate. She cares about her clients, and she’s responsible with your money. I honestly believe you won’t find anyone more qualified. Thanks again, Maureen!
I was very fortunate to have had the professional legal representation and support of Maureen Kersey and her staff. Maureen represented me in a complicated divorce matter. She presented the facts in a clear and concise manner. It was no surprise the judge ruled in my favor. However, my legal issues did not end there as the decision was appealed to the Virginia Appellate Court. Although this was an unexpected setback, I again retained Maureen to represent me in the Appeal. She again was well prepared, presented herself professionally and represented me with the intensity and fervor that makes her a top notch attorney. She successfully argued the case on my behalf and the Virginia Appellate Court upheld the original ruling. Throughout the proceedings, Maureen kept me well informed which was very important to me. She addressed all my questions and concerns in terms I could understand. Our discussions were mainly via telephone as I live and work in the Middle East with a 9-hour time difference. She was responsive and accommodating regardless of what time I was calling her. Her attention to detail is unsurpassed and I have no doubt her due diligence and positive hard-working attitude was instrumental in the "not once but twice" successful rulings of my case. I highly recommend Maureen Kersey to the full extent to include appellate proceedings.
I consulted with Maureen regarding obtaining a divorce settlement after consulting with two other attorneys in the Manassas area. I immediately felt that she understood the complexity of my situation and she proposed a realistic strategy for attempting to negotiate a fair settlement. The case was very complicated and we attended many hearings regarding the case as my ex-husband was uncooperative and unpredictable. This was not a straight forward case. She was persistent and unrelenting when it came to fighting for my rights and for a fair settlement. Her knowledge of the law, case law, and her reputation with the judges I believe greatly assisted me in obtaining the settlement that was finally agreed upon. She comes highly recommended.
I retained Maureen at my initial divorce consultation. She was solely recommended to me by Allen Newcomb, Attorney at Law, Manassas, VA. I was extremely impressed at the end of the consultation and felt confident that she'd represent me well. I retained her that very day to handle my divorce and I am SO glad I did. I was totally dependent on her, as I was completely uneducated about the legal system and divorce process. I know that was an extremely daunting task for her and her legal assistant. They both were patient and tirelessly worked with me during the entire process. I was not an easy client to work with. She never talked down to me or made me feel stupid. She was firm with me when I needed it and gave me sound direction, however empathetic and understanding at the same time. I love her personality. While extremely competent, proficient and professional, I found her to be a wonderfully normal, down-to-earth lady. She's easy to talk to and approachable. She was firm with my ex-husband and his attorney. She does not mess around! I entered the process assured that I'd have to go to court to settle, as I knew my ex-husband would do everything he could to be difficult. I was shocked that she settled my case out of court, saving me a tremendous amount of money. I found her fee to be very competitive and very reasonable for her skills. She was the 3rd attorney I consulted with and she had the best price. Trust me when I say, SHE IS MUCH MORE VALUABLE THAN SHE CHARGES. In the end, my settlement is more than I ever expected and my future is BRIGHT AND FINANCIALLY SECURE. She pushed for and obtained settlement money for me that I didn't know I was entitled to. She had the marriage settlement agreement drawn up in such a way as to legally exclude any tax liability for me, which results in me getting to keep the money I need to support myself. I never felt like she was unavailable when I needed her. She even answered my emails when she was out of town with family AND on an occasion when she was ill. SHE IS AN AMAZING ATTORNEY AND PERSON. I HAVE AND WILL RECOMMEND HER. I have several of her business cards in my purse, as we speak, to give to anyone that I know who needs an attorney. I went into this process utterly petrified, but I could not have had a better attorney than Maureen. If you need a "bulldog" of an attorney to fight for you and make sure you get EVERYTHING you deserve, you will not go wrong with Maureen Kersey!
I was fortunate to meet/hire Maureen as my attorney through a mutual friend and client. Another respected professional, in the health/human services field, also referred me to her for legal services. Our divorce case was a long process because of circumstances out of Maureen's hands or mine, and she stuck with me through some difficult times. Some family health issues, for me and family members, complicated timelines in the divorce process; Maureen took time and care to make sure I didn't get runover in the complicated legal process of a divorce that involved some difficult factors. The case was settled, very fairly and without harm to our family relationships. Maureen and her paralegal assistant, Teresa, followed up and kept in good contact with me and the other counsel with both email and phone calls, as needed, in a timely and reassuring manner. All issues were finally resolved; Maureen Kersey is a fine attorney who is excellent to work and communicate with; she strives to meet the client where they are and encourages the client to be true to the person's values toward family, as well as her explaining the process leading to a fair and reasonable outcome. I would highly recommend her law practice to all. She is highly regarded by her clients, her collegues and those in the legal community for good reasons.
Her law office seldom returned my phone calls or answered many of my emails.y I always thought as if I I were "bothering " them. During our initial consult I felt as though she was very knowledgeble. Even though I felt somewhat "rushed" through the consult, I hired her, feeling positive that she would get the job done. 5 months went by and nothing was being accomplished but money was still be spent. I finally discontinued my services with her and received the remainer of my retainer back. When I told her I no longer needed her services, she just replied "ok no problem". No questions asked.
Her law office never returned my phone calls after doing pretty well in court. For getting upset about 4 calls being ignored for a whole week I was threatened by her Junior Partner Katherine Mccollun that she would withdraw motions that could really hurt the case for my son while terminating my contract (and charging me for withdrawing the motions of course). She did all this based on hearsay from the secretary who completely took everything I said out of context. I asked if she had too big off a case load to take mine on I would like to know about it. The response I received was that I cannot "demand" a call back the next day after leaving 1 voicemail (as I have stated I had left 4 in a week about very urgent matters). Maureen Ann Kersey is aware of everything that transpired and allowed Katie Mccollun to act unprofessional. Her office didn't return phone calls or emails on time, at one point they say use the phone is better to contact; at another point they say emails are the best to contact them. Very unprofessional and will not take any form of criticism (even the kind worded subtlety and kindly) so do not believe that they actually work for you as they appear to only work for themselves. The only positive is they seemed semi-competent in court, but if your case is important to you and requires any decent amount of attention; I would not recommend this lawyer or this law firm at all.
