About
I am an immigration attorney with over nine (9) years of experience in immigration law. I have devoted my legal career to meeting the immigration needs of both individuals and businesses. I am currently working as a Senior Attorney at Immigration Law & Visa LLP. For the last five years, I have specialized in assisting individuals of extraordinary ability in the arts, education, business, sciences, and athletics in the filing of O-1 and EB-1 petitions. Through this work, I have helped numerous world renowned musicians, actors, artists, producers, directors, designers, scientists, chefs, business executives, and engineers pursue their professional endeavors in the United States by obtaining nonimmigrant and immigrant employment-based visas. In addition, I have assisted a wide range of corporate clients in obtaining a broad spectrum of immigration benefits on behalf of their foreign national employees. In addition, since the start of my career I have counseled and successfully represented clients in multiple areas of immigration law, including family and employment-based immigrant and nonimmigrant petitions, naturalization, waivers of inadmissibility, as well as asylum, U visa, and VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) applications. Until early 2014, I worked as Of Counsel for Beach-Oswald Immigration Law Associates, in Washington, D.C., where I had worked as an Associate Attorney from December 2008-January 2013. Prior to becoming an attorney in 2008, I worked as a Law Clerk in the immigration field for two years. In total, I have worked in the immigration field for roughly 11 years. I am admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland, but have represented clients throughout the United States with their immigration issues. Working in a small law firm for roughly 6 years allowed me to gain valuable immigration litigation experience. This experience allows me to successfully represent clients before U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services, the U.S. Immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and Federal Courts throughout the country. I work on a variety of immigration matters. I have assisted both corporations and individuals around the world, acquiring nonimmigrant and immigrant visas through employment, family. and asylum. I have significant experience in employment-based visas for individuals of extraordinary ability in the arts, sciences, athletics, and business sectors. Moreover, I have over 6 years of experience handling removal defense cases before the U.S. immigration Courts involving asylum, hardship waivers, and cancellation of removal. I have extensive experience in writing appeals and motions to reopen or reconsider before the Board of Immigration Appeals and Federals Courts. Finally, I also have experience working with the federal district courts in civil cases involving writs of mandamus, seeking to compel government agencies, such as USCIS, to perform their duty to adjudicate immigration petitions and applications.

I agonized over the decision to hire a new immigration lawyer for my EB-1A green card application after I had obtained a succession of O-1s with my previous lawyer who was competent but had too many plates spinning at once. The decision to hire Maureen was indubitably one of the best life decisions I have made to date. She was incredibly fast and efficient. She made herself available literally 24/7 -- which is the quality that I knew I needed most for my EB-1 case given its acute time sensitivity. Her bedside manner is exemplary, she is nimble and agile, an excellent writer, and she knows every pitfall to avoid and every hoop to jump through. She is tenacious and leaves no stone unturned. I recently recommended Maureen to a British friend in need of immigration advice and told him that Maureen is to US immigration lawyer what Nelson Mandela is to slave emancipation in South Africa. It was only a half joke. I could not recommend Maureen more strongly.
I am a French composer and Maureen Johnson recently helped me and my sponsor to get my O1B visa so that I can work in the U.S. entertainment industry. I can’t say enough positive things about her and my experience working with her. Maureen was always very responsive to emails and phone calls and helped me through each step of the process. Her work was very thorough and she clearly works very hard and long hours. She is detail-oriented, dedicated and committed to doing a good job. I am grateful for all the work she did for me and appreciated all of her advice and guidance. She is also an amazing writer and the memo she wrote for my visa was beautifully written. I strongly recommend her to any artist or person of "extraordinary ability" who is looking to obtain a visa.
Working with Maureen on my O1 has been great. Very professional, prepared and ready to answer patiently any question. We went through the O1 process with a very positive attitude and she did an amazing job. Communication has been the key, always updating each other very frequently going straight to the point. I would totally recommend Maureen to anybody that needs an immigration attorney.
I am a professional actress and singer, based in Los Angeles. Maureen worked on the file for my green card and was an amazing attorney. I have to say what impressed me the most was that she was active, reactive and effective. Anytime I ever had a question, she would quickly answer it and if for any reason she was not able to do so, she would even give me a notice of unavailability so that I would not worry. The file she prepared for my green card was close to perfection. It was a great collaboration. Every step was explained to me very well. Once we were ready to send the file, we were all surprised of how fast I received the final green card! 2 months! I think that our work on the file was so detailed and well explained that it contributed to its quick success. I recommend Maureen to any artist looking to file an EB1A green card petition.
First of all Maureen is extremely gifted with a pen in her fingers!! Great writings. On a technical aspect, her service was absolutely impeccable. Besides, she answers and reacts right away when you need her...always available for her client. Most importantly, you can feel that she really cares, she's walking with you, we would say in french!! Her involvment shows sentivity and a certain dose of empathy. Great lawyer, great person...
It's Thanksgiving! I am more than happy to thank Maureen on this day in a public form for doing a wonderful job on my O1 petition and helping me secure a O1 visa . Else than being super talented, I observed that Maureen was very responsive and caring. I always received proper attention from her and she didn't make any of those lame excuses which we hear all the time from attorney's - Couldn't respond, had been busy with my other cases blah blah... . But off course in this particular category (o1), a person has to be extra ordinary in his field but in the end it boils down to one thing -- how your strengths are presented to the authorities and Maureen very well knows to do it the best way! I think this last statement sums it all. You would be lucky to have Maureen by your side!
I previously had a bad experience with another lawyer who didn't seem to care much about my file and didn't have much knowledge about building the file itself... BUT! WHEN I SWITCHED WITH MAUREEN, IT TURNED ABSOLUTELY GREAT! She's been so responsive, fast, she kept me informed during the whole process, and helped me so much with all these documents (800 pages!!!). She's such a hard worker, and I have no doubt that I got my O1 visa thanks to her. She definitely knows her work and how to make your file stand up. I will absolutely work with Maureen again in the future, and I recommend her to anyone. She is EXTRAORDINARILY BRILLIANT! thank you again Maureen, you're a life changer!!! :)
I do not have the words to express my great appreciation and thanks for the work of Maureen. Maureen filed two appeals for me, both of which were granted by the BIA. The judge in my case wanted to deny me asylum and Maureen kept fighting for me. Eventually, because of her appeals, the BIA told the Judge that she did not have the discretion to deny me asylum. I was happy not just because I won my case but also because I learned from Maureen how much a great lawyer must be determined and engaged professionally in the outcome of their clients’ cases. I learned from Maureen that to be a lawyer also means to provide your clients’ with confidence; to make him or her feel self-assurance, no matter how difficult their case is. These professional strategies help clients to avoid the worst. Without Maureen, I think I would have given up, but she always assured me that things would work out in the end. I learned from her that to be a lawyer does not just mean to care about the lawyer fees, but it also means to find some time in order to meet with your client and listen to what he or she is trying to tell to you. Finally, I learned from Maureen that a great lawyer is not just one who always does his or her job but also is the one who knows how to respect his or her clients. I am sincerely happy to have worked with Maureen. She deserves more than the simple words I have written here. I am proud to say she was my lawyer and I cannot thank her enough.
Maureen is the best lawyer she has help me so much with my case both professionally, and personally. She knows how to help and give help I will recommend her to any law farm.
the first time I met Maureen J., without starting working with her, I saw in her some compassion ; someone with kindness. So when I started working with Maureen on my immigration case , she handled my case as it was her own with enthusiasm and devotion without any reservation ; Maureen will tell you regarding your case everything that you should know. She is a kind of person that when she works on your case she will put all her effort and make sure at the end the success will follow. Before I start working with her I was so down but once I met her I felt so confident.
