About

Matthew J. Thomas is an associate with the law firm of Rutledge, Manion, Rabaut, Terry & Thomas, P.C.   Over the course of his career, Mr. Thomas has had the privilege to successfully represent numerous individuals and entities in various civil litigation matters, including medical and legal malpractice, premises liability litigation, first party and uninsured/underinsured auto actions, third party auto negligence actions, insurance coverage disputes, products liability, and various contractual and corporate matters.  Prior to joining Rutledge, Manion, Mr. Thomas practiced with a large Detroit based firm, where he focused on the defense of individuals and entities in professional negligence actions.  Mr. Thomas earned his undergraduate degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Detroit-Mercy.  Thereafter, he received his law degree from Wayne State University Law school.  Mr. Thomas is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  Mr. Thomas is a member of the State Bar of Michigan; Michigan Defense Trial Counsel; Association of Defense Trial Counsel; and Negligence Section of the Michigan State Bar.  Mr. Thomas sits as a Committee Member for the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrock Bar Association and he was honored in 2009 as a “Rising Star” by Michigan Super Lawyers.As a litigator, Mr. Thomas has had court room success at both the pre-trial and trial levels.  He has tried a number of cases to verdict, all of which have resulted in a “No Cause” verdict.  In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Thomas also has an active appellate practice, having received numerous favorable decisions (published and non-published) at the appellate level, including Iroquois on the Beach, Inc. v General Star Indemnity Co., 550 F3d 585 (6th Cir.2008); Peterson v Fertel, __ Mich App __; __ NW2d __ (April 9, 2009); and Watson v Detroit Receiving Hospital, et al, unpublished per curiam decision of the Michigan Court of Appeals, decided  April 24, 2007 (Docket No. 273643).
