About
It's hard to tell one lawyer from the next. It's hard to tell which ones are full of it, and which ones can back it up. So, I want you, my potential client, to learn about me, what I've done, and what I can do. I encourage you to read the reviews from former clients and from my colleagues here on avvo.com. I also encourage you to go to my website: www.marnerlaw.com. There you can watch video of me actually fighting for my clients in the courtroom before the judge and jury, you can read about my most recent successes, and you can get to know the person you are counting on. I serve clients in felony and misdemeanor cases in superior court, justice courts, and municipal courts throughout Maricopa County including: Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, and others. I tell my clients that we are a team. When you are scared and uncertain about criminal charges, about the court system, about the punishment you might face; or when you feel helpless because your loved one is facing charges, you want to know about the person you are investing your trust, time, and money in. When you retain me as your attorney, you will know who I am and what I can do for you. You won’t have to wonder, “who is this guy?,” “is he any good,” “can he help me, my child, my spouse?” You or your loved one will be my client and my teammate, not simply a paycheck as many other attorneys see you. After passing the Arizona State Bar in 2008, I began working as a criminal defense attorney at the Yuma County Legal Defender’s Office in Yuma, Arizona. I immediately took on an imposing caseload of wide-ranging criminal defense cases for indigent defendants, including drug possession, burglary, domestic violence, theft, shoplifting, and others. Fighting for my clients, I received numerous case and charge dismissals, conducted numerous hard-fought hearings, got plenty of clients out of jail, and even assisted capital attorneys on a death penalty case during my first year as an attorney. As if I didn’t have anything else going on, I took and passed the California State Bar (widely known as the most difficult lawyer licensing exam in the United States) in 2009. I became a member of the Federal Bar in the Federal District Court of Arizona and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2009. In 2010, I came to Phoenix, Arizona and worked for four years as a defense attorney with the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office. Most of my time in the Public Defender’s Office was spent in a specialty division: Vehicular. In the Vehicular Division, I conducted numerous felony jury trials. I worked on cases including aggravated DUI, aggravated assault, manslaughter, murder, unlawful flight, and endangerment (to name a few). I fought and won jury acquittals on cases and charges, and procured lesser-included charges for numerous clients. I’ve fought and had charges for my clients dropped from felonies to misdemeanors. I’ve fought and won suppression hearings (to have evidence thrown out), hearings to have my clients released from jail, and am widely regarded as an intelligent, effective, thoughtful, and caring advocate for my clients by my prosecution adversaries and from the judges and court staff I practice in front of. After receiving a hung jury in one of my trials, one juror even gave me a hug and asked me to keep doing what I was doing, later becoming my personal friend. I’ve saved my clients decades upon decades of jail and prison time through hard work, creativity, perseverance, and performing well under pressure. I run my own law practice with the same dedication to fighting relentlessly for my clients as I have since my first day as an attorney. I hate bullies. I hate when the state comes after good people. I hate when the police use scare tactics and trickery to do harm to my clients and their families. And I will fight back with every tool I have at my disposal. My clients are not simply just a paycheck. I believe in what I do and I don't take my clients for granted. If you are looking for a fighter and a team approach to your case or that of your loved one, I’m sure I’ll be speaking with you soon.

In August of 2018, I was falsely accused of a DUI. With everything against me I needed to seek legal counsel to clear my name. I was extremely lucky to have found my attorney, Matthew. From our first encounter I knew that I was in capable hands. He was very personable and understanding, but more importantly he proved to have my best interest at heart. He is very knowledgeable about DUI laws and with my situation knew that I was being wrongfully accused of a crime I didn't commit. He stuck with me during this long process of over a year and a half until I could get my court case to trial and impressed me with how he represented my case resulting in a not guilty verdict. I had no faith in the system and thought that I would have had to accept the DUI charge, but when I found Matthew I'd found hope due to his genuine concern and dedication to my case. His demeanor during our many consultation and in court built up my confidence that the outcome would work in my favor. I can't thank him enough and would recommend his service to anyone facing legal hardships.
As one can understand being any type of court situation and or possibly awaiting jail time, one can be very weary of others. To allow myself to trust a man who I have never met was an obstacle on its own. Mat, did his very best. For him to trust in me and work as hard as he did to get me off. He understood this was a mistake. That I’m a good guy, a good father, a good citizen. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
When deciding to seek legal representation, I researched several top law firms and persons of high accreditation or generously well reviewed. Most of those I contacted never took the time to even respond. Those that reached out were extremely clinical and dry. One robotic sales pitch after another left the impression that my purse was more important than my problem. Of course, that’s if I were lucky to speak with the advertised lawyer. See: secretaries, personal assistants, abysmal wait times, and indifferent objectivity. Suffice the process was becoming increasingly disheartening as I was made to feel hurried and harried. With my list depleting, the morale was quite low. From the onset, Mr. Marner was personable, compassionate, and present. His warmth drew me in, but it was his candor and ethics that won me over. Those very traits would consistently give me strength and offer grounding during a difficult situation. He never mislead or offered unrealistic expectations. I remained informed and consulted EVERY step of the way. Simply put, there are no hidden fees with Matthew Marner. He’s honest and sincere, never settling for doing “just enough.” I don’t think he went above and beyond to assist me. I know he did. After a month of working on my case, I remember ending a phone consultation with him and marveling at the difference he’d made to my psyche alone. I began this process feeling ignorant and lost, unsure where to begin. A word I hate… Powerless. Within a week’s time, his guidance had me feeling empowered and knowledgeable. I was back in the driver’s seat of my life, no longer feeling a victim of circumstance. I was positive and hopeful. Mr. Marner delivered on every word given. I am truly thankful I was able to find him. …he reminds you of what his field was created for— to help and be a voice for the voiceless. I will always recommend him and I shall continue to laud his work. If you want true advocacy from a person of honor and integrity, you want Mr. Marner’s representation.
One of the most knowledgeable lawyers I have ever spoke with. Very passionate about helping those in need achieve the best possible outcome. I would recommend Mr. Marner to anyone and everyone.
Criminal defense can be very difficult especially in matters of relationship. Mr. Marner remained professional and steadfast in finding the best outcome for my case. My trust in him never faltered as my attorney. I consider him a confidant and one of the best counsels I've encountered.
Mathew is a Intelligent straight to the point attorney who doesn't sugar coat the facts. He tells you like it is & then figures out the best solution possible for your situation. He personally saved me thousands of dollars, had more charges dropped, and erased many hours of jail time and heart ache. I want to say Thank you Sir and may you continue to have a great career helping others
Mr Marner was concise and thorough. I was able to understand the outcome and take accountability for my actions. Lowered my restitution pay from 13k to 7k.
I had an old warrant from 2015. The ADA was out for blood and wanted me in jail for a misdemeanor. Thank God for Attorney Marner, who took the time to really listen to my story and advocate on my behalf. I am free today because of Attorney Marner. I will forever be grateful to him.
Mr. Marner is fantastic. He is up front and will walk through every charge you are facing in terms you can understand. I was facing five charges that had the potential of jail time and fines. I’m a veteran and with Mr. Marner’s knowledge he has able to move my venue from the standard court system to the veteran court system. Mr. Marner’s experience enabled him to broker a deal where if I completed some support classes all charges would be dropped. I’m happy to say I was able to complete all the classes and as agreed upon all charges were dropped. Not all city’s in Arizona have a veteran’s court system, but if you happened to be facing charges in one that does then Mr. Marner is the attorney you want. Regardless if you are a veteran or not Mr. Marner is a great attorney that fights for you and will work with you from start to finish. Thank you! Mr. Marner for helping me get through this trying time and for getting my life back to normal.
Matthew took the time on the phone first time I called him. He helped us get a criminal driving charge dismissed due to police errors. So thankful we had such a thorough defense attorney. We highly recommend him!
