About
Emigrating from Japan in 1981, I was thoroughly convinced that life in the USA offered the values and virtue I so desired. After deciding to make America my home, I was able to start a construction company by 1984. By 1986, I was building homes and since then I have been serving the company as president. I have been involved with hundreds of projects and have an extensive hands-on knowledge of construction methods, processes, and the full range of governmental issues that too often implicate today's builders. The company's main business has been land development and construction of new homes. If you are looking for a lawyer who has experience in fields other than the practice of law, you have found me. I know the high and the low points of life and each turn of my life has made me more compassionate about people's hardship, more passionate about helping people and more understating of the nature of human beings. I believe that this non-law related experience has made me a better lawyer. I am also a Real Estate Broker with twenty-five years of construction and land development experience. In the past I have been a mortgage broker and I have also originated residential and commercial loans. I have an extensive knowledge of lending law and this experience has been very useful in negotiating short sales and loan modifications in today's adverse real estate market. I am currently admitted as a member of the State Bar of California and the Washington State Bar. I am fluent in Japanese: speaking, reading, and writing.

Matt was able to help our financial situation by providing good counsel representation and strategy thinking. Of course we had to do our part which was a lot of work. I was surprised to see a 1 star rating posted by another client. Appears my 5 star experience is the majority and not an exception. Matt helped us navigate some rough waters and we have been blessed to have had his help. He is a good person and great attorney. Thank you Matt.
This is the second time I have worked with Mr. Iwama. He is a true consumer advocate and is very thorough, kind, knowleadgable and trustworthy. He has an obvious passion for his profession, keeps me informed about the progress of my case and patiently answers my numerous questions. I would recommend Mr. Iwama to anyone looking for a dedicated, competent and compassionate attorney.
Matt Iwama negotiated a short sale of my condo with my bank. The entire process was exactly as he explained in the beginning and he and his staff could not have been more supportive and professional throughout this emotional time in my life. He explained all options to me and I was extremely happy with the outcome. He is a courteous, knowledgeable and compassionate attorney. I will use him for any of my real estate and or legal needs in the future.
I have a Countrywide home loan. With the downturn of economy, I am making a lot less money this year. I found Matt and asked him to look into my Countrywide home loan. I received a loan modification proposal back from Countrywide within 40 days. He helped me with application, documentation, and preparation of my hardship letter. He also help me with the final loan modification paper and even arrange a new title policy supplement which Countrywide needed to modify my loan. Every step, he was there and got this loan modification done. He called Countrywide and made an arrangement for them to interview me, etc. When my loan interest was reduced to 4%, it was a $1,000 per month saving for me. He saved tons of money. I recommend his service to everyone.
Matt did exactly what he said he would do, (helped me get a mortgage modification) in the time period he said it would take him to do it, for the fee he agreed to do it for. It doesn't get any better than that. He is courteous, friendly and helpful. I would work with him again in a heartbeat and recommend him unconditionally.
Mr Iwama helped us with a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. When we first met him we were impressed by him. He said he could help us renegotiate our debt ( we had a second mortgage, car loan, and a few credit cards). He said that the entire bankruptcy would be 3 years and the payment would be less than $200 a month. He said that we'd have a credit rating over 700 by the time we'd be done. After review we ended up with a 5 year plan and now I'm finding out that even after the 5 years are up I still will owe money! Every time we call him he "suggests" a re-negotiation of our plan (at the cost of $300 bucks and hour). I now wish that I had done my research better and found someone that has an interest in helping people, I am not opposed to lawyers getting $300 dollars an hour but I don't not think he's actively trying to help his clients. Whenever I call his office the conversation is usually filtered through his very nasty secretary. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an attorney to look elsewhere.
