About
Mary is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Washington State Bar, the US District Court for the District of Oregon, the US District Court for the Western District of Washington, and the US Supreme Court. Mary also participates in the Real Estate & Land Use, Family Law, and Administrative Law Sections of the Oregon State Bar.As a lawyer in Oregon, Mary worked in the General Counsel’s Office of the Oregon Department of Justice, then in the Litigation and Real Estate Departments of Stoel Rives, and then for Oregon Senator Ken Baker, before establishing her general civil practice in Oregon City in 1992. She handles transactional, trial, appellate and administrative hearing matters. She served as a court-annexed arbitrator from 1994 to 2012, and was on the Oregon City Planning Commission from 1994 to 1998. Since 1999, Mary has represented health care and survey professionals under investigation by their occupational licensing board, the Department of Human Services or the Oregon Attorney General. Mary employs her health care and governmental background and big firm experience to deliver highly skilled and personalized attention to her clients.Mary has been a frequent writer and speaker on a wide range of subjects, including easements, financial elder abuse, neighbor law, civil procedure, and evidentiary standards. She established legal standards for willful child neglect and relevancy of evidence in Campuzano v. Peck, 175 Or App 292 (2001) and for de novo review and rebuttal of presumptions in Lawrence v. Clackamas County, 164 Or App 462 (1999).Having observed the drain of litigation on parties’ finances, time, energy, emotions and resources, only to be handed down a remedy that ends the parties’ relationships but not the dispute, Mary concluded that there must be a better way to resolve disputes. Mary trained as a mediator in 2010 and served as a mediator of small claims in the Multnomah County Circuit Court and the Clackamas County Circuit Court. Mary served as a facilitator in the Oregon Foreclosure Avoidance Program from 2012-2015.

Mary was wonderful! She is smart as a whip and super kind. I felt truly heard and she fought so hard for my case which ended up turning out in my favor. I would recommend Mary to anyone, specifically folks dealing with issues from licensing boards. I could tell she was very seasoned in the issues and understood the best routes to take.
She has helped me with family law and many tears to help fight my restraining order. She and her office is very friendly.
What's in a name? Much!! At the name of Mary Johnson, the enemy flees. Also, Debbie is a great asset to Ms. Johnson. Super friendly and very competent.
I cant possibly thank Mary and her team enough for all the effort and knowledge put into defending my property. This case took over 10 months to victoriously resolve in my favor. The law around PRESCRIPTIVE EASEMENT is very complex. Mary did everything she said she would accomplish and more since taking the case, she is likely the most experienced land use lawyer I have ever worked with. She not only loves what she does but she really cares for her client. I found that Mary is very fair and does not run up fees, shows concern for her clients wallet. It's my feeling she put a lot more hours into the case than she charged. I not only trust, but HIGHLY recommend Mary Johnson
I hired Mary to represent me for a complaint against my RN license. Such a time was extremely difficult for me, pehaps the worst time of my life. Mary and her staff, Deborah, were encouraging, straight forward and comforting. They advised me how to proceed and assisted me at every step. I believe that I had the best representation possibile and would definitely return to her for help and advise should any legal matter come into my life again. The final outcome was a dismissal of my case, with no discipline. Noone should have to go through such an experience alone and I am so happy to have found Mary Johnson. I very highly recommend her.
I appreciate Mary and her team for their hard work, willingness to go the extra mile, direct- forth rightness, honesty, and straightforward communications.
I enlisted Mary Johnson's services after being asked to appear before the OSBN. Mary was respectful, knowledgeable, professional, and efficient throughout the entire process. She prepared me mentally and professionally and then accompanied me before the Board Investigator. I attribute the positive outcome to my situation to her guidance. Thank you, Mary, for helping me through a difficult time and thanks to your staff for their courtesy and empathy.
I was very pleased to work with Mary after being accused of something I did not do. She came with me to be interviewed by the board investigator and helped dig up evidence in my favor. She was reassuring but honest and realistic with possible outcomes. She made sure that I was protected throughout the entire investigation and made me feel looked out for and more confident than if I had I faced the allegations alone. I am very grateful to have had her help.
I felt that Mary and her staff did a thorough job with my licensing issue. She made sure all of the I's were dotted, the T'swere crossed and ducks were in rows. She communicated well, but occasionally needed prompting. It ended up taking quite a bit longer than expectd, but I feel that her organization contributed directly to the successful outcome.
My experience with Mary Johnson was not positive. She took my case very lightly because she expressed it was a an easy case. She was unprepared and I lost custody of my children four months after two custody evaluations came back stating that I should receive custody. Since the loss in custody my children have been subjected to unspeakable situations. Mary Johnson then continued to rack up attorney fees without consent from myself. It has been roughly two years but my belief is that the total cost of my three to four hour custody hearing was around 7k while the opposing attorney's bills were around 3k and they performed more work and clearly out performed my attorney. In addition Mary Johnson proceeded to rack up additional fees for other cases involving her own firms mistake within my dealings with her where she lost and then tried to make me responsible for her time. I refused to pay the fees and she went after my elderly mother who was kind enough to co-sign on the contract for payment. My mother represented herself because she did not have the money to pay for another attorney again. Once again, Mary Johnson lost and had to reimburse 2k of the original charges. I would not recommend this attorney for any issue. I have learned a lot from this ordeal but not from positive experiences.
